Bay Islands of Honduras

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I was on Roatan in 2003. I stayed at Coco View resort on the south side. Was on a scuba diving vacation with my daughter.
It's cheap there. I stayed there for 5 days and did at least 4 dives per day. It was cheaper than paying to go to Turneffe Lodge right here in Belize for 3 days diving. Including airfare.
Don't know about spearfishing regulations there though. But I did see some huge cuberas there. I don't think the dive shops would be too stoked if you speared them though.

I was looking into going to Roatan some time this year & found these wondeful vids online

if they're of any help...I'm checking out a place called HM Resorts Henry Morgan has anyone heard of it?
good luck

Roatan is suitable for get to gather of group friends where they can enjoy their time and holidays. I heard lot of words about this such a nice place.
You can say that it is family place and help to come closer to each others.

My wife and I spent a week on Roatan and another week on Utila back in 2001. The whale sharks on Utila were pretty cool, but the rest of the trip was just so-so. My wife said she wouldn't go back and was her least favorite place she been to. She really like Belize and I really like Bonaire and curacao. Cozumel ism probably about the cheapest place to go, but the currents make it a better place for scuba than free diving.

The big key down with Honduras was the lack of big fish and the dead reefs compared to anywhere else I've been.

If anybody goes to Roatan, I would recommend Chillies for a very affordable accommodation. 26$ a night bungalos with shared kitchen is a great deal. I stayed in Splash Inn, which isn't expensive either, but there is no kitchen, and food is rather expensive on Roatan, adds up easily 50$ a day per person. Chillies are running very good dive operation and I was freediving along with scuba folks. Tons of dive shops. good visibility, practically no tide or currents, lot of sea life turtles fish and lobsters. One can fin to the reef from the shore, 10 minutes worth of finning right to the wall. My wife hasn't like Roatan much because roatan is all about diving, if you are not into it or if you are not a single male ;) there is no entertainment and food is rather plain. This is not Thailand.
If you are there and wonder what to bring home - locally grown coffe is great, Honduran hand-rolled cigars are excellent, I particularly like artisan grown and rolled that are sold hand-to hand on the street. A few Conch pearls if you are lucky :)
