guys i bought 16 mm Rubber for my beauchat 105 marlin elite .
i need to know what lengths to use if im trying on 2 bands

regards,

As this is a forum, which has a private inbox which I am entitled to use, I prefer using that to help others closely, like other members on this forum have helped me. I have no problem explaining here though that you've asked.

What I do is;

Measure from the nearest shark fin (from trigger) to nearest band hole (from trigger) for the first band, and measure 2nd nearest shark fin (from trigger) to furthest (from trigger) band hole.

I take the number (for example 150cm) and multiply that by 2, remove 8cm (wishbone length) and then divide by the stretch ratio you would like. So it would be something like this.

150 x 2 = 300
300 - 8 = 292
292 ÷ 3.2 = 92.25cm

So your first band will be 92cm.
All you do is do the second band. I always start with 3.2 (320% band stretch) as anything lower feels underpowered. Then if you think you can improve on strength etc you can always take off a few cm's.

It always good to take note how much band stretch the bands you have can handle. For example some bands can handle up to 330% (Pathos XP) while others can handle up to 400% (Sigal Sub extreme).

My opinion, is if you can get your hands on Pathos XP bands that would be a great choice. Durable and strong bands, good both in cold and warm waters. Natural latex bands hold up better in colder water.
Stay away from Beuchat bands... utter shite

Take the length from the muzzle to is proper loading tab, multiply it by two, ADD the wishbone length (i make mine 3 inches long) and then divide by 3.5 if you want a 350% stretch.

If you got one 18mm band youd be better off then two 16mm...A single wrap on that with a bungie or a reel would turn that into a killing machine. I had one in 115 and while the shaft it came with was 5/16 it would be much better suited with a 7mm or 9/32 shaft.

No chance 18mm band is better than double 16mm. Much more power and distance on the shot. I use 7mm shafts though

It is preference. But you cant deny the facts that double 16mm put out more pounds of force than a single 18mm. I dont know the numbers exactly but an example would be; per 16mm 140pound, per 18mm 160pounds of force. Double 16mm = 280pounds of force.

Ive haf both 18mm and double 16mm setup myself. I was never ever able to get the results as i did from double 16mm setup with a single 18mm setup.

As I said, its all about preference. I go for power, accuracy & range, finding thr perfect ratio where power doesnt effect accuracy

I think the mechanics of how it works is complicated & as you say its all about personal preference.
I really cant remember how the discussions went & I cant seem to find the relevant threads as the moment however...... I seem to remember that twin bands can have an adverse effect on accuracy & most definitely don't add double the spear speed.

I use both set ups myself, loading a 100cm gun fitted with a single 20mm power band requires a dedicated pull & considerable strength, the same gun with twin 16mm bands is obviously much easier to load but it takes twice as long & very often the bands tangle together once released.
As regards the power, I don't really think there is much penetrating difference although the recoil is different, twin bands seem to give a smoother shot with a slower recoil where as the single 20mm is much harsher.

Ive not oncr had my bands tangle, ever. I also see a common mistake people make is when loading the gun they overlap the bands which they shouldnt. As for loading taking longer, it only takes a second to load the extra band.

Try using an 18mm band with 330% stretch for example, and then try a double 16mm setup with the same stretch ratio or a bit less and you will see a difference in range, and penetration, I did atleast.

Though this discussion migjt be useless, as a double 16mm band setup is better with a 7mm shaft, while an 18mm setup is better with a 6.5mm shaft (my opinion with my experience on these setups).
There are also lots of variables which can effect your setup. Obvious reasons like the whiplash due to an overpowered setup.
Then thinga like band quality. Lots of people dont realise bands have a maximum band stretch. For example Pathos XP have a maximum band stretch of 330% while Sigalsub Extreme bands have a maximum band stretch of 400%. Water temperature also effects performance of the band.

Conclusion IMO: this will be a never ending discussion. Though I put my money on double 16mm, Ive got better results in penetration, range etc than a single 16mm, plus its easier to load.

My current homemade gun is 75cm barrel length, having a 19mm band and a 16mm band 350% stretch, 10% pre tension and 7mm shaft. 19mm kills my chest especially coz the bands are so short. Im using the Roisub Demo system.
My next 100cm gun in the making will have 21mm band and 2 sets of 16mm... loading the 21 is gonna kill me lol.

PS the setup your seeing on the photo of my 75cm gun is an old one, Ive fixed it up and it has more pretension as the one shown has no pretension on the 16mm and little on the 19mm

Don't you think that high mass wooden guns offer a different set of circumstances than a 28mm alloy or carbon barrelled lightweight gun though?

And i was talking about normal banded guns, not rollers or that sort. I shouldve mentioned that, again my bad :)

I have had another search on the forums for the threads I mentioned but I just cant find any!
I do remember however, that 10 years or so back, there was plenty of talk about competition target shooting using superguns in swimming pools (does that still go on?)
There were several classes but in the unlimited class the competitors still choose to use single band guns!
I am certainly not against twin bands & normally fit twins to all my wooden guns ... just passing on info...

you dont have to be a fan of them to dismiss the simplicity of a single band and single wrap gun. Im not going to get into an argument here with you about it, but i was just offering my advice. You measured in cm while i did mine in inches. that might be confusing. But i missed that earlier....
