Hi guys, I live in Hawaii and I just upgraded from a 3 prong to a 110 Picasso basik open muzzle that I got off Craigslist. I looked online but couldn't find any recommended band sizes. The guy I bought the gun from had a double wrap of mono and 2 16mm bands. He said I should probably change them out though because they were cracking.

I've loaded spearguns in the 110cm size range and shot them before so I know I'm capable of loading one.

With that said, is single or double wrap mono a better choice for a beginner? And does anyone know the preferred band size of a 110cm gun? I'm not too sure if 2 14mm or 2 16mm would be best considering my level of experience and the waters that I dive in (sometimes good, sometimes bad vis).

Thanks!

Most people will be very happy with a single wrap of line. If you are hunting reef fish the second wrap of line is going to provide a very slight increase in effective range, but is slower to load, more likely to tangle and get caught on the reef etc. We rig all our guns with a single wrap, unless a customer requests otherwise (which we are happy to do).

As for you bands, it is your choice on thickness. Check out this "how to" topic from our website - it should answer a lot of questions. Of course if you need any supplies, tools (or new bands hand tied for your gun) - see our site. We don't have a chart for 14 mm bands, but they can be a little shorter than the 16 mm bands.. (we have that latex size as well).

You don't mention the size of the spear.
With a 6.5 mm diameter shaft I go with a single 15 mm or 5/8 band. if it's a 7 mm shaft, I use 2 bands of 13 or 14 mm (9/16) rubber, tied a little looser.
