Hello , my name is Isaac, a 15 year old boy and I live in Malta , a small country in Europe in the Mediterranean. I have been freediving since i was a kid , but now I decided to take up spearfishing.

I have purchased an Immersion speargun which I think is suitable for a beginner like me and I have already tried it out . I need to buy a new suit this summer . I can hold my breath for just over a minute and I was wondering if someone would offer me some small tips on spearfishing . My aim is quite good so I need help on approaches rather than on aim.

Thanks to whoever replies ,
Isaac

The more you do it the better you get so go alot and find a person in your area that will show you the ropes and always buy the best gear you can afford because in most cases you get what you pay for, be safe and read alot and most importantly have fun!

Do not concentrate too much on shooting fish, instead enjoy the dive and the underwater scenery. This will make you more relaxed, the fish will then pick up on this and come in closer to investigate you as they will feel less threatened. It's amazing how sensitive they are to stress/tension/nerves. The more relaxed you are the more successful you will be. Also don't compare yourself to other divers, concentrate on your diving not theirs.

And lastly don't be afraid to ask experienced spearos questions, you will probably find they are reluctant to give away their spots, but they will often offer advise about technique or approach.

Dive safe and have fun

Aspetto seems to be the best way to get close to fish, whether it's fur fun or spearfishing. drop to the bottom, and just stay still for as long as you safely can. They should get curious and come to you. When you move, you tend to scare them.
