First of all most of the people I talk with dont get convulsions at all when they hold their breaths as long as they can ... I get them before I am very tired at all. For instance, my father who can hold his breath maybe 1 minute max, never has gotten a convulsion. My convulsions start at maybe the 1:30 minute mark before I am very fatigued at all.

Before officially starting Apnea my record was 2:30 and I would stop when the convulsions started becomming somewhat painful and I would start feeling a little woozy. Since discovering this site, I have begun to push it to the limits and have dealt with the convulsions a little more and have gotten up to 3:00.

Anyways so here are my two questions, are all of the people who dont get convulsions not pushing it far enough, or do some people get convulsions easy, while others don't? Also I have noticed that when I clench my stomach I can resist having convulsions, but I fear that that may just make me more tired in the long run. Should I just let the convulsions through, or should I hold them back?

Oh well, looking forward to increasing my static apnea so I can have a blast this summer on a trip to Greece and Italy. I guess I started free diving by accident last summer in the Red Sea in Egypt, so I am looking forward to continuing that! Any input would be great... Thanks!

The correct word is 'contractions', not convulsions. Convulsions occur as you black out, as an epileptic seizure (spasming of all body parts). Involuntary diaphragm contractions are simply referred to as contractions.

Some people don't get contractions because they don't push far enough. Other people don't get contractions at all, and can black out without contractions (Example: Mifsud, Steegstra, etc.)

Okay thankyou for the correction. Tonight I achieved a personal best of 3:39! This stuff works!
