Hey everyone...I'm just getting into spearfishing and could use some advice on locations that are good for "getting my feet wet"...pun intended.. I'll be using a pole spear to start until i get the motivation (AKA $) to get a pneumatic gun into the shop for some maintenance.

I'm looking for good locations anywhere near the Point Loma, SD area that are easy to get to and probably around 10-20 ft. depths to start. I have a kayak to use if need be but shore launches will be good too.

Also, the gun i have is a ranger technisub. is this a good gun? is this a good 1st gun? I'm probably looking to hunt around kelp beds and relatively shallow waters to start. I know i'll need something bigger for going after big game. I'd be happy with a gun capable of pulling legal halibut...does this fit the bill? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Im a begginer also ive only been out a few times but theres a nice place by where i live, in solana beach and its about 15ft but its nice. Its a little far out there but its worth it if you have a kayak and dont have to swim back to shore then its great. If you ever want to check it out just cruise over to solana beach, its on the 101 and just park in a big parking lot thats in between cardiff and solana beach. when you get to the place you can see some tide pools nest to where the cliffs start their elevation and just go straight out about a 1/8 of a mile and your in the spot. or whenever man im down so just email me skaterbeaver69@yahoo.com, and i dont know much about gus so sorry i cant help you out on that one.
