Hey all,
Been a very long time since I've posted here due to terrible weather and work commitments but I've managed 2 trips in the glorious weather we've had.
My first trip was yesterday at Coverack in cornwall; never been here before but have been told it holds bass. Despite poor vis (2 meters) i persisted and right at the end of my trip i went down for the 'last dive' and right at the end of my breath a school of mullet swam past and i managed to hit one at the back of the pack. turned out to be around 3lb which is the biggest thing i have caught. Now i know you shouldn't do it but i went out without a knife because i lost it on my last trip; which came back to bite me in the ass because as i took it off the spear with the intention of finishing it off with the spear it wriggled out of my hands and swam off..... i was gutted!!
I am sure i can't be the only one this has happened too but still, it sucks!
I'm still learning and any advice or tips to help would be very appreciated, im also looking for a dive buddy if anyone is ever out this way.
cheery guys. please share any beginner stories you may of had/having as they are helpful for people to learn from.

I would never take a fish from the spear before killing it but yes you are right it has probably happened to most!

Most of us have done it or simular its gutting for you and some times the fish!Don't think you will take it off the spear again till on stringer or on dry land !Lesson learned.Next.
