Hello all,

I'm beginning to get interested in freediving and have been reading a lot on these forums etc. I used to swim in apnea a bit as a kid, but not for 15 years or so. I'm away from the water for a while though, so I've just been trying to learn Freznel etc and today I tried my first static apnea excercises. I read somewhere to try a breath hold, then rest for half the time then hold for longer and repeat. These were my hold times:
1m35s (packed a bit)
3m
3m15s
4m
4m46s
I felt a little light headed after the last so I stopped.
I had some questions: is this safe to do alone on dry land?
Why does the time increase so markedly? Something to do with co2?
Thanks,
John
