I have never been a fan of belt stringers but i did see a very intresting looking one on a french spearfishing video clip.It looked like it was held under tension so the fish were kept tight to the belt.

Can anybody post pictures os their set up's:)

As you can tell i'm bored and have started fiddling with all my kit.

Both guns have had new dynema wishbones and dynema lines. Both have also had a new set of rubbers put on.My float set up has been adjusted and now i'm turning my attention to my weightbelt.

So you’re an out of work down and out bum, a stay at home day time TV watching lazy triple chin fat pikey.:blackeye
Well mate the kettle is always hot up here, just give me a bell and I’ll even get a couple of double chocolate fudge brownies in from the local deli.:):):)
Anything to keep you from fiddling with yer kit...!roflroflrofl

I've been looking to improve my belt stringer as I try to use this rather than a float if I can (bearing in mind safety concerns).

I now use a larger stringer/spike and ss cable rather than my usual shorther stringer and braided line (not a fan of mono for this).

I have 2 snap links/carabiners on my belt, on the front either side of the buckle. I have the end of the stringer cable on one snap link and having threaded the stringer around my back I use the loop of cable on the spike to clip it to the other snap link. Works well but if it's a little loose it can slip down over your ass with a few fish on it. If it's tight then you need to be careful on how and how many fish you thread on (there's a limit).

I tried an elastic link but there wasn't enough stretch. Now I'm thinking of having an equal length of cable and elastic cord doubled up (as per the sketch) and running freely through one snap link while the other end is anchored to the other snap link along with the spike.

I think this will be an improvement as there should be a steady tension but the elastic shock cord will need to be the right strength to balance the weight of fish. With the cord the number of fish carried should increase as the sysyem can stretch and also should be tighter and never slip down.

I feel some bodging coming on.

Dave.

Thanks for the reply Dave:)

You have given me a few ideas and i will also post the results on here.

I do own the omer stringer but is very light weight. Good for flatties but not so good for bass and mullet.

I think i can see a mixture of both OMD's and Bill's stringers coming:)

I have the OMER regular spike and mono stringer. I just create a loop on the end opposite the spike, loop it round the first H weight on my right, wrap the mono clockwise round my back and shove the spike under my belt near the front to secure (with the point angled out away from my suit). No need for clips etc, never comes off when loaded with fish and can be ditched one handed in an emergency. A K.I.S.S solution if there ever was one!

You can also always keep it under tension

Had a play with the stringer and came up with a similar solution as stringing my gun. I used a spare pig tail swivel bungee and my Omer Stringer to come up with a system that i think will work.

The line looks slack while on the belt but once on the extra thickness of my suit will take up most of the slack. The bungee will allow me to deal with the fish in front of me and then thread the stringer back into the belt holder.Keeping the fish tight to my belt.

It may take some adjustments as i didn't have my suit on when i rigged it but i think this will work nicely:)

I have tried a few different approaches but keeping the fish at your back is the best by far.
Not so much an issue these days when one or two fish are the norm but still fish hanging on your side I find very annoying especially in the weed.
Dave seems to have a good system but I use a float mostly.

Never seen so many wicked weight belts in one thread.

I sometimes find the fish slide round the stringer and I end up with a groin full of mullet flapping through my legs. Then I start thinking about the gaping jaws of a bull seal heading for that target.

I'm going to follow your lead Glowworm and redesign my rig. I like the fastex clip on your belt mate, is that for the floatline??

I also worry how tempting my arse looks to the cornish seals when decorated with mullet and bass.

Similar set up to others although my stringer spike is secured by pushing it into a short length of brake pipe which is secured to one of my belt weights with 2 heavy duty cable ties.

i got my ideas from omd and on here, i used to carry the stringer on the float, but having learned my lesson, the flatty bashing is much easier to just string them straight on. I've sharpened the stringer and keep it in a bit of pipe just like Pav mentioned.

Lazuli the fastex clip on my belt is for my seatec weight vest.

I don't clip my float line to me i clip it to my gun:)

Hi guys
I heard about the belt stringer is banned from this year or is that only for the competitions?
Cheers

Hi Tony, yeah just BSA national competitions...bit of a safety thing really - 1. Congers, Seals, dolphins, Sharks!! 2. Makes people fish close to their floats..

I got a new fishstringer from omersub by marco bardi and now I'm scared to wear it:head. I only had one similar problem in my life when I was in Miami and my float with the fish was closed to the rocks and I tryed to pull it to me and didn't want to move so I thought that was stucked between the rocks when I went to check closer I saw that huge green moray eating my fish.roflIt was scary!!!!
