Hey my name is Jeremy, i just moved to Bermuda and was wondering about the free diving/pole spearing laws, i cant find much online about it. I have a beach in my back yard and would love to scale the coast and catch some grub i dont have a boat so it would be coastal fishing, if you have any information about it please let me know. Thanks,

I am afraid I don't have names in front of me, but there is a very dedicated freediving spearfishing community in Bermuda. There was a big write-up on them in Hawaii Skin Diver a couple of years ago. No spearguns allowed, sothey were going after large grouper and even pelagics with pole speaqrs and Hawaiian slings. I'll try and look up the names this weekend.

Thank you very much for the response, im ready to get in that water and snag some fish, but i definitely did not want to get in trouble for it. thanks again mate.

Jeremy,

I came up with 3 names from the article.
Odilio Angeli
Neil Burnie ( vet, and does shark cage dives
Tim (works at the aquarium)

Good luck. It looks like a great place to dive.

Howard

I would suggest trying to not spear fish from the coast - there are hardly any fish left in Bermuda - just try go diving or snorkelling and see for yourself. If you really want to kill fish, may I suggest you get certified and volunteer to hunt and kill the invasive lion fish population that is decimating these waters? Apparently if you know how to cook them - they are very tasty and you would be doing a service.
