Hello there, I've got about two weeks vacation coming, and I was hoping someone might have some knowlegable suggestions about where to go.

I want to go on a dive trip somewhere, but don't have a lot of money. I'd be leaving from Washington DC.

What places can you recommend for the best combination of reef, coral diving as well as just a nice country to visit (not overly touristy and commercialized) and cheap to get to and stay in Central America or the Carribean. I'm thinking that Beleize might be my best bet.

I've dived in the Similans in Thailand, and am looking for something comprable in quality and price. It's too expensive to get to Thailand right now.

Thanks for your help!!

Well, Miami is like visiting several countries at once and has all the diving your looking for. But it's overly touristy and commercialized.:(

Yeah, and expensive to stay. Thanks though. I'm really looking to get out of the States.

Check out Bonaire, shore diving cheap. You can get Air Jamaica out of BWI Sat-Sat.

Costa Rica ain't bad, although it is somewhat "established" now as a dive destination, so the prices may not be dirt-cheap. It is, however, the "green," i.e. rainy season, so prices may be lower from now through late November. There's an island off the Pacific coast (not Cocos or Cano) that used to be a prison island -- the name of which escapes me -- that's just recently been opened to tourism. It might have some nice diving, and I don't think it's that far offshore.

Juan-John :)
