combination low-volume - nice visibility and fit (even for those of us with prominant probosci) Currently I have a Cressi Matrix - which seems pretty darn nice. But I've been eyeing the Omer Alien.

Opinions, or an authoritative thread link would be great :)

I presume you will use it for spearfishing. I hear good things about the OMER Alien and will post again when I've tried one. It reminds me of my old favorite that is no longer made. I think it was a Mares. It had a cable around the lens frame holding the skirt on and was very low volume. I use the OMER Abyss most of the time. The Sphera is the berries for deep stuff. I don't think you could go wrong with the Alien provided it fits your face. Here's a thread:

I got recently a Technisub Look for SCUBA
I'm looking now for Cressi Big Eyes for freediving

Does anyone how to dismantle them and change lenses?
(I wear -1.50 correction glasses)

Any link? diagram? pics?

Sale on the Bigeyes

I'm sure it's not rocket science - but it looks like most cressi dealers will put the lenses in for you at little or no cost. I have the Matrix - which so far won't take prescription lenses (though I'm not sure why). Try a Big eyes on first - in my case it was too small for my nose. (seal was find but it was pushing on it). I know scubatoys has a sale on these masks right now - about 34.95us with the lenses at $35 each - they are an authorized cressi dealer and will install them. They are here in the US so I'm not sure what shipping would be. I can tell you they've been great to deal with. (the shop on this site is also fantastic - got my fins from them)
Visibility on these masks is great in all directions.

Fondue - I use a Cressi Supperocchio - it seems like the standard beginner mask if you are not sure what to buy - well not beginner but a sort of catch-all mask that seems to do what it does well - nice low volume and good fit - Ed

Superochio etc.

Thanks for your input.
I think I'll stick with the matrix for awhile. I'd like to compare it volume wise to something like a sphera or superochio - just to feel the diff - but it seems like a quite low volume mask and the lenses are so close that the view is virtually unrestricted. It will leak a bit under the nose if you try to frighten the fish by making weird faces - but otherwise seems great.

Equalizing seems optional down to around 20-25 feet or so. I do like the Cressi's - they seem generally really comfortable.

Prescription free dive mask

Yup - resurrecting this thread. Coming to terms with the fact that the clearer water here means it's probably time to get a scrip mask. I've looked at the technisub luna - looks cool - not many reviews. As mentioned I have the Cressi Matrix - which is a great mask - and fits better than the big eyes - but does not handle prescription lenses. I'm not looking for extreme freediving - more like spearfishing/recreation depths - maybe 30 m some day - but balance of volume and vis. more like for hunting and freedive photo.

i use technisub luna, i dove with it up to 25 meters and it did not cause anytrouble, hovewer it needs some air to equalize too.I wonder if OMER Alien really combined the volume of abyss and field of Aries:hmm Some says it fits everyface because of being frame-less:confused:

By the way my luna leaked water in it and replaced it with the new one yesterday.

im the proud new father/owner of a Omer Abyss Exclusive. it works beautifully and feels just as good as any of my other Cressi masks

Hows the nasal accomodation?

I'm not Jacques Cousteau but my nose does divide the universe.

2 words: PLASTIC SURGERY! im just kidding... most Cressi masks have very soft silicone that moulds perfectly to MY facial features.
i have also found that my Omer mask has a pretty darn good comfortable feel, almost orgasmic but IMHO the real (Sven pulled this word due to it offending others and besides he thought it sounded like a kid was typing it...) of all masks would be the Cressi Minima

I know what you mean

My Matrix was feelin' pretty darn good today - fortunately the water was extremely cold.

Sadly my current consideration is limited to masks that are available with prescription lenses.

I do like the minima's 'dork chic' look though.

DeepThought i have not yet tried the Sphera. i have to be completely honest with you: im open to new ideas, just not with my equipment. i tend to find a setup that i like and it takes me a lot of time to change it. as a matter of fact im surprised that i bought the Omer mask, but i wasnt getting the results that i wanted from my Minima when i was spearfishing, and sadly Cressi is a little old-school, so i needed a mask that was mirrored and had an amber lens and thus i became a father.

maybe if you tell me what you like about the Sphera and how it compares to a Cressi i will look into it

No probs. :)
Did a search, it was posted on another thread already:

I've used the minima, loved it, eventhough it does tend to leak quite easly, and lost it.
Bought a sphera instead, and now an even happier diver.
After diving for a few weeks with my new sphera, I switched to Bevan's minima for a while (he has both masks), and the difference was noticable with full power, the sphera:
Has better (even much better) field of view.
Seals better (for me atleast).
Has lower volume, which doesn't matter much for my depths, but when going up it was easly noticable since with the minima I had a much bigger "cloud of bubbles" around my head.

The only thing the minima has on the sphera in my book is the glass lenses. The sphera just seems to sponteniously scratch.

Adding:
Since the lenses are a bit "curved" it takes sometime to some poeple to get used to the "distorted view" (your brain fixes it in no-time).
It is known for being a bit fragile, so it won't last as much as a normal mask.
I'm not sure if it'll serve your purposes, but if the minima was your favorite, I think there's room for the sphera on top of it. :)

Not at all Murat, quite the opposite.

What about the volume and the field of view? Do you find field of vision acceptable?

Anybody knows comparision of Technisub Luna vs OMER Abyss in terms of volume of field of vision by chance?????

From what i see from outside is Abyss has lesser volume but smaller field of view????

Me too

Abyss and Luna are currently at the top of my prescription mask list. - be cool to get some opinions.

the volume is pretty small. i cant really feel a difference between the Omer and my Minima unless i go past 15 meters. in terms of field of view its pretty good and so far i dont have any complaints
