Hi guys.

I'm after getting a Suunto D3 and have heard some people have picked them up for about £140. Does anyone know where from and what the delivery times are like.

Cheers,

John.

im in (was) in Australia and it was cheaper for me to buy mine from the US and have it shipped than to buy localay. I ended up buying from LeisurePro.com

Robin Hood watersports were selling very cheap but can no longer supply them. Think they still have them on their web site but they couldn't get me one (actually needed 3) even after 3 months of trying.

Apnea in Jersey are about the cheapest UK store and about the cheapest full stop. They are building a good rep for service too. About £140 but this is without VAT. If you don't tell the customs I think you might get away with it. Not that I'd condone such practice. look at their site. They use post office so delivery is cheap.

Scubaland france is usually cheapest store around but their D3's are £150 + vat and they use post office as well.

DB shop is about £153 + vat but has free air mail delivery.

I know all this 'cause I've been trying to get a deal on a D3 for the last year. Not bought yet as I still think there must be a better deal around.

Cheers guys.

Apnea in Jersey looks like the cheapest but with the VAT it is more like £170.
The other Places seem to charge more like £180.

If I ordered one I guess they would have to add VAT.

If I took a holiday in Jersey then I could perhaps pick one up, pack it with my dive gear and avoid the VAT.

I'm assuming that you don't pay VAT in Jersey.

Thanks again,

John.

I live in london and last month ordered a D3 from Apnea Jersey. It arrived with a customs inspection sticker on it but not a mention of the VAT. all in with postage about £148, it arrived in three days. I would recomend these guys.

Enjoy it.

If you visit Jersey (or Guernsey) you can buy goods up to a certain value for your personal use and take them back to the UK without paying VAT. A D3 would be no problem legally if bought like this.

Sometimes there are cheap deals on the ferry like £20+ day return from Weymouth or Portsmouth to the channel Isles.

From Guernsey a cheap day return to Jersey is about £20 on the fast ferry.

Check out this thread.http://forums.deeperblue.net/beach-bar/68289-holiday-guernsey-2007-a.html Maybe you could ask a favour or join the party.

I bought a used Mosquito on ebay, and must say it has been perfect. many appear in the US ebay site and the seller are often willing to send abroad. Mine cost US$250 with data cable, delivered to my door in Chile. BTW, the Mosquitos have 99% of the D3 functions, + scuba!

ah sorry, an slightly off topic question. If I buy a wetsuit in Scubastore (Spain) and send it to the UK where my folks live, will I have to pay any duties or taxes on the way in? Thanks

Hmm..

I could maybe just order one and hope I don't get charged VAT

or

I'm down south near Weymouth in a couple of weeks, I could take a day trip over and pick one up.

Thanks again,

John.

In the EU, you normally pay VAT in the country of purchase - in this case, Spain. There would be no further taxes to pay in the UK -- "the common market". As a non EU resident, you should be able to either avoid paying tax in Spain, or reclaim it (they usually don't make it easy though ... e.g the airport offices are often unmanned!). However, if you send it from Spain to the UK, I would think technically VAT should be paid and they'd probably assume it it already has been.

If the supplier is going to ship the suit, they will charge you VAT if they send it elsewhere in the EU. If they send it outside the EU (e.g. Chile), they should not charge you VAT (it is worth reminding them of this).

John,
Might be cheaper & simpler to just pay the VAT, distasteful as it may be. However, what a great excuse/extra benefit for a fishing trip to the Channel Islands. (All those in favour of abolishing VAT, say Aye...)
