I was wondering watching various techniques for predive relaxation/breath up which one is the most beneficial.

- We have the classic face down position with mask and snorkel.

- The supine position with inflatable pillow round the neck or a fun noodle around the waist or around legs (depending on surface sea conditions). No snorkel (eliminating dead spaces in breathing).

- The vertical position with the fun noodle between legs. No snorkel too.

I found for me most beneficial the vertical position or the supine because I dont like the feeling of the slight pressure on face in the face down position nor the breathing through the snorkel. I feel that for those having nasal irritation with sea water drops in nose pocket thus blocking the sinuses after few minutes its better to try the vertical or the supine position for better breathing-equalization. Trust me I have tried these. My worst dives is in the face down position whilst the best is in the vertical or the supine. All above with the classic mask although there are other variations with fluid goggles and nose clip or noseclip only, etc..

I think that after much time of observing myself have found that as I am a frontal sinus bad equalizer its best not to have the face down position. It seems that this position is creating psysical high blood pressure on the nasal sinuses thus blocking the ostias and making equalization very hard and painfull in the nasal areas (especially on the frontal sinuses). Having the mask completely empty of sea drops in the nose pocket area and staying at a vertical position (classic human position) for breath up and relaxation is the key for better dives short of sneezings, irritations, blockings, etc

For good order sake, a combination of neti cleaning, sutra neti, drinking lot of water and all various stuffs for clear nasal passages are very helpfull.

I found no thread on the DB for this subject.

whats yours???
