Good morning All. I've been using a surfing wetsuit for a couple of years but I'm a bit fed up of getting cold after about half an hour and ready to move on to something fit for purpose - open cell and two piece. I was looking at the esclapez suits but apparently they don't make it in my size. Does anyone have any experience of the Beuchat or Cressi suits? Or any other recommendations for that matter? I'm thinking about sticking with simple black rather than a full camo one. Thanks!

Best? How do you define best? Where are you? In general though, get Eliossub in Italy to make one to your measurements. Choose options to suit your needs & budget. Even their cheapest rubber, Ecoline (only in black, open cell inner & nylon outer), is good for spearing.

Ecoline, spearo pants, hood, beaver tail, loading pad is all you need. Other options up to you (other pads, long-john pants, camo, silly coatings, deep water neoprene, etc.).

Most big brands are reasonable. In South Africa, I liked the look of Miles wetsuit - Predator I think. There is also a Greek company some have switched to - bit cheaper for made to measure.

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the UK. I'm basically after something that is warm, hard-wearing (as much as an open cell suit can be) and fits well. I don't think my budget can stretch to an Elios suit but I'll certainly check out Ecoline.

Spiros is now advertising his suits on ebay, search spearfishing.
great suits for the price.

I'm lucky and always had cressi suits off the shelf as they are ok priced and pretty much fit perfectly off the peg. They don't always tick all the boxes of an MTM suit but the exterior covered ones are hard as hell if you do shoreline stuff. I've battered an old cressi supercomp for 10 years and it is still not a chuck away job. It has a few repaired tears and such like but refuses to die. I keep it as spare now for any mates that want a go and bought a new one because I wanted to, not because I had to! :D

Unfortunately I'm not sure how many people get such a good fit off the peg so it's a suck it and see I'm affraid. And although its difficult to tell out of the water, try on some suits where you can.

My open-cell suit has lasted very well although it finally started to loose some "loft"/warmth last year. The nylon outer is what makes it last well - the soft open-cell inner just sucks onto your skin.

Unfortunately, the relative strength of the euro has significantly increased the price up of Italian goods in recent years :( - but suggest you get Elios (&/or the Greek brand, DiveSKins?) to quote for a basic spec. spearo suit as described above, if only for comparison. When I bought mine, it was cheaper than most off-the pegs suits and I have no regrets. For me, a good fit is the best/most important feature.
