Hi! My question may seem too elementary :rcard

I had problems de-fogging my mask the last time I practiced diving.
I usually spit and rub my lens to avoid fogging and it works (especially in a swimming pool). But the other day, it simply won't work with the same mask while I was in the sea. Has anyone experienced this? I was so frustrated and couldn't enjoy diving that much because of this fogging.

Also, is there any other way cheap alternative to defog a mask? How does one prevent defogging using toothpaste?

i use the toothpaste method....

you basicly clean the lens then take a pea size amount of paste on a tissue and rub!!
once our lens is clear so you cant see the paste do it again, i done my mask about 3 times and i havent had to re-doo it since.

James, see if this helps you:

I never thought fogging could spoil the fun.
Thanks a lot for the help! :) I can't wait to hit the beach again..:inlove

i use detergent (this thing to clean dishes...)

clean the mask with one drop of detergent, rinse the mask and it will not fog.

i´ve heard about coca cola!

Fill a box with coke and put the mask overnight in the box!

Eliminates all things wich causes the fog

The absolute showstopping defog stuff ever is an oven abrasive called "Astonish". Just a quick circular rub on both sides of each lens before a dive will guarantee no fog whatsoever when you spit and swash.

Hey I know this subject has been illustrated extensively, and everyone is correct. After thoroughly cleaning the lens,'inside and the outside' I use an inexpensive commercial product called 500 PSI Mask Scrub and the Antifog. But I had to find out why spit seems to be effective on a cleaned mask? Because spittle has glycerin in it,go figure!

I usually spit inside mine like most people have said as yourself :p
But I also wipe the inside of my lens with some of the weed I find in the sea. I'm not sure if all types of sea weed does it lol but the weed I use in North Cyprus seems to work fine for me :D try it some time when you don't have a de-fogging product with you, it might work :p
Im curious to find out whether or not all weed has the same effect :p

For me soap for dishes work perfect. It`s easy and cheap and you always have it in your house. I usually put a drop in before I go to the sea or pool. It then dries out, but once you put water in it you can clean it. The norwegian navy has a 34`C 18 m deep pool. And they always keep a bottle of dishwashing soap available:)

maybe it's me, or maybe I use and use and use masks, but I have never had them fog in 28 C water or 12C. old masks?

you guys are buying too many new ones... ;)

Lots of thanks for all help in passing these helpful info...

I have Cressi mask IST and beachat micromax for cressi and IST regarding fog i have no problem since they are bigger in volume but whenever i go with the beachat which was recomanded for free diving hardly i can see something in the water because of fog i didnot try the 500 PSI i do not if its available in DUBAI i will check it out but so far i have tried spitting, sea weeds, tooth paste, and detergent, but non work with this mask!!! Anyone has experience in this type of mask because even when it is clear i see things darker comparing to other masks that i have mentioned...

Appreciate your advice in advance

I never had any problems with my Beuchat Micromask. Before getting in the water,I just use the Close-up Mint toothpaste, let it stay for a couple of minutes then rinse it. You can use spit to de fog afterwards. If toothpaste is messy for you, the trident TR-17 anti-fog is very effective.
