I have just got a new Imersion 3mm Blue Camo Suit with the open cell interiour, and i would like to know any ideas on what to use to lube up with when putting it on.
Some people have suggested soap or dishwashing liquid but i can see this degrading the rubber after a while ( not to mention my soft delicate skin )
So whats a good lube
Dipping my self i KY could be fun

I have tried a mix of the KY Jelly and water 1:1, and it worked great. However, i't kinda expensive and I have no idea where I could buy KY in bulk.

When I enquired at the local pharmacy about a bulk puchase and explained that I want to use it to lubricate my open cell apnea wet suit, I got a dirty look and I heard the guy mutter something "... wet suit ... sure ... yeah ....."

rofl

so for now I use hair conditioner .. seems to work fine and causes no skin irrations.

D use very diluted Johnsons baby wash and water.....works fine for me and I smell like a baby!!!!

will try the baby thing Donna ;)

Baby wash is a good sugestion but I can just see the Lads not teasing me at all when i whip out my baby wash and start lathering up.
Anything a little more Manly

lol crusty - some of the guys in the UK used Linx body wash.....

Island Sands - do you pour the mixture over your body or into the suit? I always pour it into the suit and then just slide in :)

Another tip, if your hair is longish - put a swimming cap on (not the ones with flowers all over them rofl ) and then the suit just slides over your head instead of getting caught up in your hair!

awww but that's my favourite cap!! rofl rofl

yeah i have very long hair and no matter how i tie it up, its caught everywhere... 1st stage, snorkel keeper, velcro on wetsuit, dive computer.. grrrrr you name it! :girlie

my suit doesn't have a hood... but i may use the swimming cap just for diving! rofl now.. how would that look??

I was demonstrating a no mask swim for divemaster training the other day... and i had CAREFULLY pre-prepared my hair with loads of conditioner for slide on slide off (hey it's all part of the PADI Pre-dive preparation) hehehe and the #@$^&&%-g snorkel keeper got caught in my hair.. grrrrrr how embarrassing - had to combine the skill with some scissor cutting hand signs and a big smile... ended up just yanking it off to break the hair as there was no other way....
jeez i was ashamed

Merlin.... :naughty

well old nexus tried to order his KY jelly in bulk rofl rofl would have loved to have see the pharmacist's face

Seriously guys, if your after KY in bulk, try a vet, they use it to put on their arms when they shove them up a cows bum; you can buy it in 1Kg tubs from vet supplies

My daughter found a tube of KY in my dive bag and it didn't matter how much I explained to her that I used it for diving she would not listen - she just smiled and said 'yeah right mum you're minging!!' :D

Baby shampoo is the way to go.
A few drops in a bottle of water shake it up. Then add the bottle to the inside of the suit. then shake -n- bake. Pour the the soap out and slide the bod in:)

works great and cleans the boat deck tooo.

I use Carex hand soap - maybe not good for sensitive skin, but I've never had any problems.

I use stuff called Emulave, which is a type of bodywash for people that have skin problems ie dermatitis etc.
It is very gentle and I find that a 1l bottle lasts for ages.
I simply squirt a couple of pumps of it into a 1.5 litre bottle of water and use it like that.
Dishwash and bodywash is very hard on the skin remember that you aren't washing it off quickly unless you have a really poor fitting suit, so its stuck to your skin all the time you are in the water. Not so good I think.
I have heard from others that started out using dishwash and became sensitised to it after a while, it turned into dermatitis and got worse.

I use Baby shampoo but you can try bearing grease (men stuff, sure) rofl rofl rofl ( and destroy your suit)

I dunno about y'all...but I'm stickin' to the name brand I know best...

All proceeds go to Stephen Whelan's Home for Victims of Stubborn Wetsuits.
