Beuchat Cavalero

Hello All,

New to the Spearo world and I have a few questions regarding a particular gun. I have the offer to buy a Beuchat Cavalero that is fine shape. The gun has been used once and was immediatly rinsed off and dryed.

I can't seem to find specific information regarding the gun. I've seen other models from Beuchat on the WWW, but can't seem to find information out about this particual model. The only post I've found is that the Cavalero is a beginer gun, perhpas the low side of average. That's okay with me..... as stated I'm new to the sport.

Here's what I know of the gun:

-Single band (probably 20MM)
-Black, approximately 110-120CM
-Model is Cavalero

My questions are:

1. What do these guns go for new
2. Any particular weakness with the gun, or safety concerns.

I used one for years, they shoot strait and kill just fine. unsure of the current market value. do you have a pic?

Those guns are from Rene Cavalero and are a true legend, Beuchat stills manufactures them as the Polinesia and Rascasse they are great entry guns and you will get a lot of fish and a lot of fun with them. I have two of them, one is 30 years old, the other is 17, and still kickin` I don`t use them no more but they have a place in my heart as excellent weapons. In spite of that, there are plenty of guns that you may choose from, say some railguns or wooden guns...

I had a mundial Elite that lacked any beuchat labels, but had "Cavalaro" logos on it.

Appreciate the quick replies. I've attempted to post two small pics of the gun. If the pics are not viewable, let me know and I'll give it another shot. As stated the gun appears to be in very good shape, used only once.

FYI - I was told that those particular models of Beuchat guns are merely JBL manufactured guns that have the Beuchat private label on them. I have added a couple of pics. The JBL photo is reversed so th gun aims in the same direction as the Beuchat.

Rene Cavalero was (maybe still is) a designer of spearing gear for Beuchat in much the same way as Hughes Dessault used to be at Sporasub.

Yeha, getting a closer look of the first one it looks exactly the same of the gun depicted before. They are tough guns anyway.

I was thinking on the older Cavalero models with the blunt grey rearhandle with a red safety button on the top.

Nice catch, Amphibious. How did you manage to squeeze three bands into that Arbalete? Did you change the muzzle, or what? I also had one of those (2 bands) which I used for many years with no problems at all.

don;t remember if they are 16mm or 14mm, that pic was a long time ago, but I remember they fit. this was back in the days of my spearfishign youth when more bands was always better I squeezed 3x20mm onto the JBL NW Spec. on the left too

not a bad catch for a reef in less then 2m of water

Yeah, that JBL NW is a good piece of equipment too, specially for the reefs and the kelp. I dont know why some people denigrate JBL like if they were rubbish. It is frequently the first gun for many thousands spearos around the world, it is very reliable and lasts forever, like the old arbaletes.

the beuchat is quite a sturdy gun, a friend of mine has it for over 20 years, he managed to break the barrel at one point in time so it was filling up wih water, but still usable!!!! he changed the barrel for like 30 euros and now its as good as new, he doesnt use it though, switched to carbon..

Correct the beach next to our compound rarely gets more then 2m deep, and thats more then 800m offshore rofl
