Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows if all of the Beuchat freediving fins (Mundial Sport, Competition, Carbon) share the same footpocket?

It looks like its much cheaper here to buy the Mundial sport fins than the footpockets on their own.

Cheers

Can't answer your question. But chimed in to say that Beuchat Mundial foot pockets are currently on clearance at www.freedivestore.com at $80 for the pair. We do ship internationally (from the US).

Hi, Speardiver1, thanks for that relevant tip. BTW if you want to sell stuff through the forum, we have a Marketplace area specifically for that purpose. I see the fixing kits are an optional extra (per fin?).

I'm afraid I cannot answer your question Crusty but the same question has occurred to me as I have inexpensive Beuchat fins, Competition model I think, with tough plastic blades. I like them. I like the foot-pockets, some say they are good for long thin feet but I have wide feet and they fit me well(w/o socks in Summer, with neoprene booties at other times). Looks to me like the blades are removable (e.g. little metal clips on the side) but I have never tried to remove them

Personally, I would go for the cheap fins. They likely include all the fixing hardware you'll need. They might be all you need. If not you could try finding some replacement blades (Beuchat or 3rd party that fit) later, once you have decided whether or not you like the foot-pockets. It would be odd (but not unheard of) for the footpockets to be different - as you'd think Beuchat would (a) want to make you loyal to their brand footpockets and (b) buy blades from them (it doesn't always work out that way though).

Noted, thanks. I only posted it here thinking it was relevant to the OP's question.

Fastening kit is sold separately. End clips are included with the foot pocket. That's how Beuchat offers them.

I consider the Beuchat f/p to be suitable for narrow feet only, and offer them as an option with Speardiver blades precisely for guys with narrow feet. I mean anyone can find a Beuchat f/p size that they'll be able to fit their foot into, but if your foot is not narrow you'll find the end of your toes is a good distance before the toe plate opening, and that's not an ideal foot pocket fit. There will energy loss in the transfer from foot to blade.

Thanks guys for your help on this one, Turns out that the cheap fins on sale were only available in a huge size, so back to spending more money again. It sounds like these could be the right footpockets for me as my Omer stingrays are a size smaller that my foot size but still loose around the front of my foot, even though my toes stick out the end. Not ideal really.

Cheers

I'm having the same question, i.e., if beuchat blades fit all to the same footpocket. Since the question has not been answered since a while I was wondering if someone might have figured it out by now?

Sorry, I still can't answer that question. I would guess not, as they sell specific blades for each model range (e.g. Competition/Sport/...) - on the other hand they might just do that so the shape/size/branding/etc. match up if you only want to replace one blade. You'd think/hope that they had a common side rail specifications.

Replacing blades
Since my earlier post I have replaced both blades on my 9 year old Beuchat Mundial Competition fins with brand new Beuchat brown Competition blades (as I had snapped one blade*). Replacing just the single broken blade would have been more cost effective but now I have a pair of brown blades (although I doubt if the fish care whether the blades match & non-matching would be more "camo") with a spare camo-over-blue blade if one breaks.

*I lost one of the metal side-clips on the blade that broke a year or two before the blade broke. Perhaps if I had simply replaced the metal clip (by buying a Beuchat fin fixing kit) the blade would not have snapped? (It failed in extremis, so hard to tell).

Satisfied Customer?
I also decided to be buy a new pair of Beuchat Mundail Competition fins as spares (blades are fairly expensive, so perhaps better to just buy new fins) - so I guess I must be happy with this model. A "belt & bracers" solution to be sure. This model seemed like the simplest, least hassle option for me (also the new fins arrived a month sooner than the replacement blades).

Size:
As I said, my toes are short, and my feet are wide, stocky & high volume (pretty normal in the UK apparently) and I find these very comfortable; for reference my measured UK size is 9.5 length D-width (measured on a cold day at a Clarks shop, same size as the last time they were measured 20 or 30 years ago) but - ironically - I am unable to wear footwear that small - normally I wear UK size 10.5 (or 11 for boots), USA size 11 or 12 and EU size 45(/46).

Alternatives?
BTW Mares, Seasub & Imersion often have keener prices on spearo-specific fins (& other gear).

Just for information, Mr X mentions Seacsub, their shout fins are excellent and very well priced, they come in three stiffness levels, I have the shout S900 which is the medium stiffness and they are excellent!!

Reactions: Mr. X
Good to see a positive review and I see they are readily available (in all sizes & in medium stiffness) on Amazon: Seac Shout S900 Long Blade Fins

They look good

BTW I came across these amazing looking brown camo fibreglass-bladed spearfishing fins on Amazon, £111 a pair (includes blades & pockets). They look great anybody got a pair? Although not cheap by any means, the price seems reasonable compared similar offerings. It would be good to see they come in under £100 but I wouldn't want them to compromise quality/robustness to achieve that. Not a beginner fin but something nice for the more experience spearo perhaps?
Brown-Camo Stereofins Spearfishing Fins by Leaderfins:

Available in all sizes & 3 hardness levels too. Seems like soft or medium is usually recommended for spearing. I reckon I would opt for medium (the "Goldilocks" option!), as Pinniped72 has (I have big, strong legs & don't dive real deep).

This chap seems to prefer the harder blade options - albeit for carbon rather than fibreglass Leaderfin blades (see comments underneath video when viewed on youtube):

More glossy (fibreglass blades this time), nice:
Interesting to see the diver carrying their snorkel tucked inside the back of their weightbelt.

I see they are developing a translucent fibreglass "Ice" fin too - kudos
