Beuchat Mundial 600

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I have a feeling the gun will sink if you fit a 7mm spear, maybe the extension has something to do with balance underwater?
I would not make that gun my first choice personally but, if you really cant find anything else.....

Got these two today with my Beuchat 90but these are the only ones0. I am not absolutely sure what they are but I ate them and they were quite good. If anyone knows what they are lemme know. I saw many fish today but these are the only ones I could get.

They look like triggerFish to me. I'm not too good with tropical fish so correct me if I'm wrong, but they look identical to the triggers we get here in the uk except a different colour.

Well done by the way

Thanks for the response. No, its not a trigger fish the mouth of the fish is shaped differently and the fish in general dont have the shape of the trigger fish I see here.

Sorry bud I can't help you then as I'm no good with tropical fish. Hopefully someone a bit more knowledgeable than me will come along soon and help you identify it

Surgeonfish mate. Don't really like them myself but if you think they taste good your in luck cos there's plenty of them around. Careful of that spine near the tail, can be really sharp especially on the bigger ones

I got these 3 today. I tried to clean the trigger fish and I really didn't know how and I wound up just butchering it and I had to throw it away so I wont be shooting any more of those.

We found the skin of a trigger fish to be mega hard, with even a Stanley blade struggling. So I put some boiling water (from a kettle) in a bucket, then dip the fish in there for a few seconds. The skin should now just peel off leaving the flesh still attached to the bones.

Hope this helps

I know there is a bit of trial and error involved in hunting but getting a little info is good before shooting anything that moves. Some fish like the clown trigger at bottom are actually not that common and don't taste good anyway. As a general rule if they are very colorful they don't taste great i.e most wrasse, surgeonfish, Angelfish, pufferfish and some parrotfish. Buy a reef fish i.d. guide like the books from Debelius or Indo Pacific reef fish by Allen. They won't exactly tell you what you can eat but they give you some idea whats down there and some info on poisonous fish. Some species of puffers can kill you if you eat them and some other large individuals are toxic.
Just a final point. One reason scuba divers get uppity with spearfishers is they mistakenly believe we randomly shoot anything in the water. I would still only consider myself a beginner, some days when I started I would go out for hours and get nothing but keep at it keep practicing and the big ones will come along.
Happy Hunting Mate
