I use a Beuchat Carbon Mundial and just purchased the Mundial reel for it... Now my question is do i still use the line release in the bottom of the gun or do i use the alegator jaws on the sides?

i ask this cuz when i mounted the reel it sat right on top of the line release so i dont quite understand how im supposed to hook up the shooting line to the release... am i missing somthing here??

Thanx in advance
Zane..

Hi
Just saw this. I had the same problem but Louis from rabitech made me 2 stainless steel brackets ( U shaped with inner dia. 28mm and small flat piece that fits underneath the belt buckle) You don'y use the normal bracket so I filed that off. Hope this makes sense. attached is a picture ( not very clear- Iwas shooting the fish afterall) With this system the line release is clear.

PM me if you need more info

Jacques

Well i got rid of my Mundial reel and bought a Rob Allen aluminum and made up a bracket for it and now is perfect.. thatnx anyways.

Can u post some clear pics of the bracket please?

Thanx
Zane....

the mundial reel comes with a "belt attatchment" that can allow you to bracket mount it to a round barreled speargun, using 2 hose clamps, i havnt done it to mine yet, just use the aligator clip at the side, and i havnt had any complaints about this setup, apart from the line will pop out of the clip if it hooks up on anything

I rigged a beuchat 90 with a reel last year. I fitted the reel near the handle and like you blocked the auto release. I found the best rig was to feed the reel line through the small hole meant for tying the line under the nose of the gun then i fitted a swivel then some bungee and then the shooting line. I took one wrap of the shooting line and secured it under front of the alligator clip. The shooting line then went through the muzzle and was secured to the back of the spear, making a wrap and a half. I have had no problems but found you need the bungee to tension the set up. Accuracy seemed unaffected using the alligator instead of the auto release. I use one set of 16mm bands and a 6.5mm diameter spear. Shooting line is 160 lb mono.

Hi Dave, what do you think about the gun?, was thinking to buy myself a 100 version.
Saludos!!

Hi Mike. How you doing? Which part of the world is the "middle aged" musician in at the moment?

My Beuchat 90 is the older model but last week I bought a 75 mainly to use for night diving. While I was in the shop I looked over the new competition 90 and the 100. These are the ali tube stock models with a single set of screw in 16mm bands and an articulated wishbone plus 6.5mm stainless spears. They're cheap at £50 to £70 locally.

I think that they are excellent guns and tremendous value for money. They're tough, no nonsense guns. My 90 is 15 years old and good as new even after 1000 fish or so :) . Good accuracy and suitable for fish up to 10lbs at medium (say 6foot) range. What you can't do is overpower them. Fit double rubbers or huge singles (20mm) and the accuracy goes to hell. The 100 might take 18mm bands and maybe reach out to 8ft but with no rail and no ballast in the stock that will be your limit. Still you can drag it over rocks and generally abuse it and it won't let you down.

Yes, I like Beuchats.

I am not sure about that, I can't imagine threading that line through the reel every shoot.

I have one those reels but I actually do not like them, they are very heavy and I had it lock up several times, I am replacing it with the new sporasub reel or the old imersion reel (what ever my budget can afford).

Strangelove,

I also use only simple horizontally mounted reels. OMER Match 30 and another, similar to the Imersion reel.
The Beuchat real is too bulky for me. The pictures were made by a friend of mine, who tried to find a way to use the reel on his gun... I guess it did not work very well for him either, because he switched to floatline.

I think i came to a realization that i much rather a float line than the reel.. dunno why but the reel thing didnt really click.

The Match reels look really good, how did you fit that into your gun ?

They come with a universal bracket option.

The Match reel is indeed very good.
As I shoot with wooden guns it wasn't hard to put the reel. I unscrewed the adaptor that is used to attach the reel to the OMER guns. Then I drilled two holes in the speargun's body and screwed the reel in place. Very simple.
