Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here who is a BFA member could tell me a little bit more about it. What are the benfits, the main one I see is the insurance, but how does this work? Am I covered for freediving on holiday? I am not interested in competing so that part is not relevant and the log book side does not appeal a great deal to me. Are their any other organisations that will not recognise the BFA?
I hope someone can help.
Thanks,
Martin.

I am a BFA member, and the main benefit for me is to be able to go to pool training sessions. Only members are allowed to go, after a trial period of 3 weeks. That's the Richmond pool training, I don't know about Kentish Town.

We do not require BFA Membership to dive at SaltFree, or for pool sessions

If you wish to know more about the benefits, why not ask the BFA directly.

The BFA is the UK governing body for freediving and associated with Aida (the world freediving governing body). The BFA represents the community of freedivers in the UK, it is a small but growing association. Many members have joined simply because it is the right thing to do. It doesnt matter so much what you get out of it (although the benefits are well worth the annual membership, just freediving the lily pad ), just join it and be a part of us. You can call your membership fee (£20 I believe), a donation to a worthy cause and in which case that in itself is a worthwhile thing to do. London is a freediving hotspot, contact Marcus Greatwood email mig@notanx.com and dont just join the community but freedive with it.

I'll probably join when I have the money, after all, it's not essential, just a requirement for certain aspects. I've been to the Kentish Town club in london, but I haven't had a chance to make it Richmond yet (I live in the east and it's all the way to the west!) and I haven't tried the NoTanx club yet either, although I would like to...but yet again, quite a mission to travel there for me. I am, however, a lifeguard so I get to use a nice 33m long and 3.5m deep pool after closing with another freediving friend of mine, it's great to have such a big pool to yourself :D But after years of "freediving" I was just wondering what benefits arise from joining the BFA. thanks for all your replies. Maybe I'll see some of you at a club if I can make it anytime soon :)

Hi Martin,
Like as was said above I think its worth joining up for insurance but also safety. I,m based in Ireland north west but still joined as I hope the membership will give me a bit more credibility when talking to pool managers about using their pool. at least until something else is set up here. And probably after that anyway
