Seeing as I was too much of a wuss to dive in the Key West tournament this past weekend I decided I should at least show up and congratulate the winners. These guys worked hard to get there fish diving to more than 100 feet with as many as 100 dives on sunday. That is a lot of up and down. Congratulations again and a well run tournament Norman.
As it is I managed to win a OMER T20 110cm gun in the Raffle and also scammed a free dinner from the gift certificate to the Rooftop Cafe from Guy Nesbit. The Food was excellent and Wednesday took pity on us coming in so late and still managed to get Gerry Guerra drunk for his victory night.
Chris, Bucketnuts, and Casey thanks for the patch of floor in you expansive Caribbean Villa I slept like a king. Tricky Rick, thanks again for the 100' bungey, it will be put to good use in South America this week.
To top it all off. Someone took pity on me and I was able to go offshore Tuesday and run the boat for one of the Charter Captains and a friend in Key West while they fished. After we ran out of bait I convinced them to let me jump in the water while they cleaned the boat and rerigged.
First two big weed patches were loaded with dolphin but I only took two small bulls 8 and 10 lbs. Next spot felt better and after landing another small on I was reloading my brand new OMER 130 America when I looked up to see a big dolphin coming my way. I only had time to put the shaft int he gun and cock one rubber without even running the line and turned to shoot the fish. I hit him at about 12 feet square in the middle and could see the flopper had not penetrated but had messed him up pretty good. The guys in the boat brought the newly won OMER 110 to me and I dove just as the shaft pulled out of the fish at a depth of 60 feet. To say I swam hard for the next 10 minutes is an understatement but i finally caught up to the fish after ambushing him on the other side of a big weed patch and put a shot into him.
Battle Royale.
Had i not hurt him so bad with the first shot there is no way i would have landed this fish. Thank goodness for an accurate gun and a golden opportunity.
36.5 lbs.
One of the best I have landed here in the US and a great way to start the life of these two guns.

Nice one Cameron!

I was still excited about the few mahi we shot two weekends ago thinking my 10 pounder and my buddies' 20 pounder were considered "gaffer" dolphin. But now I'm reconsidering calssifying them as "peanut" dolphin :D Good one!

Congratulations Cameron!
nice story and nice fish!
Where are you going in South America?

Cheers,

Roberto

My diving buddy shot couple of them in a day in Cyprus!!! they were weighted about 17-14 kg

Venezuela. It has been pretty good but the Billfish are not here in great numbers right now. There are other options that have been working out...
