Hi everyone, I am a 15 yr old male and have been freediving for just under 2 years now. I have always been comfortable to a depth of 40 feet, but I had a scare yesterday. I was spearing with a buddy in 35 feet of water when I came up dizzy after about 45 seconds underwater, normally this is nothing unusal, as I do this for hours on end almost evry weekend. But when I came up dizzy I wasnt doing anything unusal. I dont hyperventilate and I rest atleast 2 minutes between each dive. I haven't made any dives past 20 feet since that beacuse my buddy insisted I not until I find the problem. I dont dive with any weight because at 15 feet I start to sink. I live in florida so I hardly ever wear a wetsuit. So my question is what should I do ?

If you feel it so scary, you should visit a doctor. Especially, if you experienced other unusual phenomenas (I mean feeling sick, pain, ...)
It is possible, that he won't find anything (I think, this is probable).

What I found is: there are different days, and you are in different fittness state every day. It depends on a lot of things: how much you could sleep last night, how tired you are(!), what you ate (how much), if you drank enough water or not(!), what did you drink (refreshments with bubbles i.e.), if you were too much under the strong sun, and so on...

So there are many-many factors.
I would underline the hydrating thing: drink enough water, or even better some isotonic drinks. It is also good to eat a lot of fruits. Then of course you have to eat enough. Dives consumes a lot of energy, and that is what you have to replace by eating. Though it is not good to go diving with full stomach.

I cannot tell you what your problem was, why did you feel dizzy, but just thing about these things, maybe you will find the answer.

And, it s important, if you feel so, please go to a doctor, just to be sure!

Thanks Jee, I havent really felt sick or anything, and I wouldnt say scared, rather I understand how things can and do go bad underwater thats all. I will try to drink water more consistently next time. I guess I wasnt scared about the dizzeness as much as the fact that I never have felt that and have stars in my eyes coming up thats all.

These things would happen to any freediver sooner or later. That is why it is so much important to dive with a buddy every time!

I wish you nice and safe dives! You are still quite young, so I'm sure you will have a lot of fun in freediving, and you will visit bigger depth later! :)
