sodwana, got this loner off the sand. equipment, 7mm spear RA 1.3. single 16mm rubber.

ok, so we were stuffing around after a good days diving. i had unintentionally fed a large potato bass by spearing a green jobfish a little too close to the reef. these potato basses are big (100+kg) bullies and a real menace to spearos. the encounter left my spear looking like a noodle. now i want to say that loading and shooting a speargun out of water is really irresponsible and i havent ever done it in my 5 years diving, but i was curious and my spear was stuffed, so i cut the line off and loaded it into my mates 1.3 and shot this bin. what amazed me, and why i am posting the pic, was the penetration. through both sides of the bin which was really tough plastic, about 1cm thick. we had to bang it out with a block of wood, about 2mm at a time! this was with a 16mm rubber that wasnt too hard to load.
a good reminder how lethal these things are, and why we shouldnt stuff around with them, like shooting dust bins.

cheers
mark

Yes, rather silly. But just think, now you've done it, I won't have torofl Always wondered how far it would go (say compared to a bow and arrow or a crossbow). Looking at the power I'd guess a bloody long way!
