Worst diving "session" EVER!
Went diving this morning. On the way to Hertzelia (a City just north of Tel-Aviv), driving on the left lane (out of 4 or 5) the car shut down. Completely. Couldn't even signal to the right so I could stop it on the side. Couldn't even signal for distress. Just stopped there letting cars pass by in the morning traffic of one of the bussiest roads in Israel. It didn't start again, there was some kind of an electrical problem I think (it wasn't overheating).
Atleast I managed to use the 80kph momentum to stop 20 meters away form a gas station (near cinema city). Went 50 meter backwards and put a light-reflecting distress triangle thingy on the road. Ofcoruse a few smartasses decelerated and shouted things like: "atleast signal!" and "stop at the right not at the left!" like I could do any of that, thanks for the help.
Luckily Husam had a cellphone - ALWAYS DIVE WITH A PARTNER! :D (I'm one of those rare Israelies I know who don't have a cellphone). Called the police and asked them to send a car to stop trafic so we could cross the 4 lanes and push it to the gas station - no other way without risking speeding cars not noticing and killing us. Called dad who called insurance who called a tow truck. Other failed pseudo-mechanic attempts to fiddle with the car at the gass station didn't work. We weren't especially distressed about it, still talked most of the time about diving.

The car is a 1996 1.4L Opel Corsa. Belongs to my brother but I'm using it since he got a (good) car from work.

I hope the insurance will cover enough of the costs.

The sun was shining bright and it was above 30c and 80% humidity and there was pleanty of smog to dive in. It'll take an ample of showers to get refreshed from that dive session.
I'm sure there are crappier failed dive sessios, no one got hurt in this one but my delicate lungs. Feel free to bitch about it if you like. :)

I hope I can get the car back soon as I have this sudden unfulfilled urge to dive!

EDIT: this is my third failed dive session this year, what up with that?!

Oh' man...
For the first time I can say I'm glad I was sleeping instead of diving :yack
Guess I didn't miss anything.
I don't even want to imagin coming- I wear me 5 mm Elios at home!

My friends Corsa also died a few weeks ago during the drive.

How come you don't have a cellphone?!
That's sick! :D
You may be the only one here without one.

Till next time. :wave

I know it's not quite the same, but last week I ran over something on the way to work tuesday night. It busted a hole in my gas tank. It really sucked because I was supposed to go diving the next day and also friday. I live so far out that no sane person would offer to pick me up and take me to the quarry. I didn't get my car back till yesterday. I went and jumped in the lake yesterday and did a dive to 11 feet for nostalgia's sake since I won't be diving again until this friday.

Many years ago, I was back home for a few days, anyway it was bonfire night (UK thing) and I was driving Dads car dow the road just after dark, I saw a man walking his dog on the pavement, then I saw a flash as some idiot kids threw a firework at the dog, which duely bolted accross the road under the car. I screeched to a halt as I heard the bang of the dog hitting the car, I was panic stricken and upset, the man ran across the road and looked under the car then stood up and reassured me the dog was alive. But the little B@$T@RD has sunk it teeth through the brake hose so we had to get the car towed to the garage to be fixed :waterwork That cost me a small fortune and all that was wrong with the dog was a bloodshot eye :vangry :vangry :vangry

I have a lake across the street.

The big one is five miles away.

The really big one is 30.

The red tide has been so bad this year all along the SoCal coast that enough gas has been burned in boat rides out to the islands to raise the cost at least a cent a gallon. I was hoping to spend the entire summer learning to spearfish but instead had to drive clear down into Baja to do it. Grouse, grouse, grouse! :D

WAH?!? are you knuts? it's not like you're living anywhere near the beach. I'm not sure which you're abusing more, your suit or yourself. What's wrong with wearing it on site? it's not like we're doing glacier diving...
I hope you don't do the same when you go diving in Eilat (5 hours drive).
Also, water temps are 30c now, what do you need a suit for anyway?

So it was worth it. ;)

I hope an act of forgetfulness is the reason that you omited from your post the part in which you take your trusty crowbar laying next to you on the passanger's seat and disciplined those bastards.

It was the first time we met in person actually. :) Did you dive with him before?
We might try diving again tomorrow or the day after, you in? :)

The tow (which took less than 20 minutes) was 100+$, insurance is supposed to pay that.
The car was in the garage for 4 hours total or so. From which the electrician worked on it for about 20 minutes (and now the car alarm even makes sound!). There was some shortage between the key switch and the computer. So this car has a computer now?!
The garage charged 140$~ VAT(17%) not included for that work! After some bargaining it went to 110$ with no vat (don't ask how things work in Israel). Dad helped me with that as I'm a poor student.

It's you who don't have a cellphone!

That's somting I got used to from the cold winter days.
And by the way, there is nothing like the touch of an Elios to my skin...

DT my sympathies. Know exactly what it is like being stuck on a highway and receiving an inexhaustible variety of "flowery" language from every passing motorist. For me it was a dead transmission box.

Respect for not having a mobile though - its a state of being.

Hello Michael! I'm sorry to hear about that! Better luck next time! :waterwork

The moral of the story is you should get a cellphone!

Had that happen on the way back from Reno, NV last January. We were so far out of the city that cellphones didn't work and we had to wait for the county sheriff to drive by and use his radio. Took about 4-5 hours because my seals around the cooling system blew. :vangry

god i hate working on fridays... and the ocean is beautiful today.. had brekkie on the beach this morning at 700am.. it was gorgeous.

And now the sea started to be shitty again. :(
Waiting for next window of opportunity.

hi michel iam very interested in going out with U guys
i met Housam and his brother :)
i think Said will be interested to (??)
now October i think is a very good month dont forget me :wave

Speaking of shitty seas. We just had typhoon Nabi roll north of Guam. Surf is way up, visibility is way down and I can hardly get any sleep from the sailboat surging back and forth. sigh.... anyway I cant wait for the day when I sail out the harbor mouth and through my cell phone overboard!
