Bloody hell! congrats! damn now I'm even more keen for a road trip up to KZN, the Hibiscus challenge has already tempted me, but shooting black marlin on shore dives sounds like the bomb!

Great catch and story! I enjoyed every bit of it! Thanks for sharing!

Well done Griff, got a text from my buddy Brett Sangster the other day to tell me.....excellent. Framed for a lifetime!:king

Nice. I didn't know they came in that close or any billfish for that matter. Except for a couple of rare occurences that I know of.

Holly cow!!! what a catch! congratulations and thanks for share it

Cheers for the amazing story... and congratulations!!!!

Wow it seams like Durban, KZN, South Africa is the place to dive. On Friday 23rd Feb 2007 Another Marlin of 125kgs was shot. Then on the Next day another one was seen by the top man (skipper) jumping out the water 100m away from two spearos who were rigged and ready to shoot a marlin.

For the full story of both Marlin that have been shot go to Fishing Corner - Home

So to all the guys in other coutries see you in South Africa soon.

D

pretty amazing, suddenly all these marlin comming out. I'd never have said that you should rig up to shoot marlin off durban, but now it seems not completely unreasonable.

so whats the perfect marlin rig? 1.2m railgun, 18mil rubber 7mil spear, +-30m floatline and a small float? :t

Mark this month as Marlin month!

Allot of meat to eat - hope none goes to waste, its impossible to practice catch&release and a shame to see one of these shot and not eaten.

I am not sure how I will react or what I will do when I see or get one

In years to come I am thinking some good video footage of an encounter where the big one swims off may be “better”.

Heading up to Durban for the Marlin Classic April end this year to at least get a chance to find out
