The goal for my dive trip today was to have a nice and relaxed begining to the season of deep dives. I failed, all went well up to the point when i made a variable weight dive to something like 24m. The final meter gave me a sharp pain in my right ear and I made the turn. The rapid decent was to much for my equalizing. The pain went away after a couple of minutes but my dive mate noticed blood in both my ears.

I called it a day and have had no real trouble during the 10h since the dive.
Does anyone know of a reason for ears to bleed other than ruptured ear drum? I'm guessing that having my ears checked out by the doc and staying away from the ocean for a good long time is the end to this disaster.

All in all a less than ideal beginning to the season.

Well the first thing I would do in your case is go to the doctor. I know its not the nicest thing in the world to have training cut short due to an injury, but its better than really damaging your ear.

The most common cause for bleeding in this case is going to be a ruptured ear drum. There are other options like a burst capillary some where, but neither you nor I have the expertise to determine that, as I'm not a doctor and I'm assuming you are not either.

Play it safe, stop diving, go to the doc and see what he says. If he says no diving for 3 months, then I would suggest you take that advises.

All the best,

Dean
