Blue Spirit 2006 in Dahab

hi,

from the 9th until the 30th of september we will organize 3 weeks of freediving workshops in dahab. the idea is to bring together some of the more influential and respected freedivers to pass on their experience, knowledge and skills to a limited number of students in an open and non-competitive environment.

you'll probably know some of the invited trainers from deeperblue already: peter scott (laminar), eric fattah, tyler zetterstorm, frank pernett, william trubridge, alun george, peter pedersen, bevan dewar, sebastien murat, john bonaccolta, fred buyle.

if you have an interest to participate contact me through www.blueskunk.net

i wish i knew earlier about it, i'm off to Dahab in July for two weeks...but then, maybe a re-run this year would be doable, in September!

Can you give more details on the thread on tentative workshops, expected costs, number of participants - it may help people follow the link much faster though with the line up of names you mentioned, September will see less traffic on this site if a lot of us would be done in Dahab :).

Serge

Yes Roland, please do post more info on this thread.

For instance, is participation required for the full 3 weeks, or is it a come-and-go string of events?

The Idea:

Blue Spirit 2006 is an opportunity for open-minded people to expand their horizons, to learn and to improve as freedivers and to interact with some of the sport's leading individuals.

All participants, trainers and students are selected as much for their attitude, dedication, and devotion as for their specific skills or performance – it is our goal to provide an open, positive environment where everyone can grow and learn. It is our belief that thorough and rigorous training, focused on the qualitative aspects of the sport, will eventually translate into superior performance.

Like any physical or mental discipline, mastery comes through a love of the process, and we believe that this passion is shared by each member of this project.

The Program:

All trainers will hold one to three day training sessions or theory lessons which will be well documented (on CD). The presented topics and training sessions will range from basic to advanced, emphasizing the latest research in freediving physiology, safety, training concepts and technique.

A team of professional safety freedivers will be available during all dive training.

A free database will be installed where every participant can share his or her files, data, video clips, etc. with others.

Days off can be used as rest days or private diving days. Since most trainers will be around for the entire event, there will be plenty of opportunities for discussions, common dinners, and other informal events.

Requirements:

The number of students is limited to 15. These things are needed if you want to participate:

1. 2-3 weeks of your time (9. – 30. September 2006)
2. be comfortable to freedive in the 20-30m range
3. a keen interest to learn
4. 600 euro participation fee

Priority will be given to those who can participate for the entire 3-weeks period in order to lend continuity to the group and maximize the relationships that we expect to form.

If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible. We will book you on a first come, first serve basis. We will send out a more detailed outline of the actual program and contents of the event once we have confirmed attendance.

You can contact us at: info@blueskunk.net

At the moment we are just a couple of students short of the maximum of 15. Most guys were already booked before the event was even posted on deeperblue. Hopefully you are not too disappointed now :)

Fred

I wish I had 3 weeks and 600 euros.................

i'm sorry to say that i can't make it to Roland's Blue Spirit event. i really wish i could but my circumstances/priorities have changed - mainly in the fact that i no longer dive. but that's another story.

in my humble opinion, i think Blue Spirit 2006 will be something very special indeed... the concept has been around for a while and i'm very glad that it's now actually going to happen! this event will break new ground, in that it will bring together leading freedivers who share a common interest in developing their skills and understanding of freediving in a relaxed and non-competitive environment.

many of the invited speakers (Eric, Seb and Will in particular) are true pioneers in freediving, making Blue Spirit a unique opportunity for freedivers of all levels to benefit from their knowledge and experience; to discover new ideas and ultimately increase their enjoyment of freediving.

if you want to become a better freediver then you cannot miss this event. i think there are just a few places left so you need to contact Roland (immerlustig) pronto to secure your place: www.blueskunk.net

alun

Alun sorry to hear you wont be attending and even sorrier to hear that you no longer dive. All the best in your future adventures.

Regards Nathan Watts

hi,

currently the water temperature is 27 degrees. borderline 28, actually. i am being optimistic.

also, due to some cancellations, there are again a few slots left in case anyone else wants to join.

hi,

Since this event is already seen as a milestone in the development of freediving as an art form and mental discipline, we happily announce that this year’s BlueSkunk Bubble Ring Challenge will also feature a head to head contest that will be broadcast life from the Red Sea. All participating freedivers of this event will be invited to compete with each other in a knock-out competition.

Can Sebastien Murat’s exhale bubble beat Will Trubridge’s unassisted ring thing? We will find out.

Secondly we will have a competition for “Miss Bubble 2006”, an event which already generates a great interest in initial surveys.

Can anyone suggest somewhere good to stay in Dahab?

just got back from dahab, i can suggest a place or two in the range of 70-110 Egyptian pounds a day (roughly 9 to 15 EUR). This should get you an air-con double room (twin or kingsize bed) on a 5 min walk from the waterfront. Concretely, i stayed in BishBishi Village (resort), friendly staff, decent breakfast and lots of cats jumping around. this one was 11 eur a night and i would go back, if that's any indication of how good the place is. www.bishbishi.com

If you want to be even closer to the water, there are plenty of places like Deep Blue, Crazy Camel but from what i saw, the places are not very tidy and rooms can be very tiny unless you are not shelling out at least 25 eur a night, which was not in my budget - i prefer to spend the cash on diving :)

more tips by request. have fun there!
