Hey all,
The time of me picking a boat up seems to finally be getting closer so I have been looking into storage and launch options. Basically the two most cost effective options are either the sailing academy which will end up being about £80 a month all in and obviously offers some benefits like wash down/flushing area showers etc and ability to leave boat in the water overnight if required. Second option is storage elsewhere and launching at Caatletown slip. Storage will be in region of £60 a month for what I want. While this is cheaper and wouldn't extend my journey etc. I imagine parking is still a pig at Castletown especially with a trailer and likely to add considerably over time to my costs and hassle etc. so I am pretty much sold on the sailing academy but interested to hear any thoughts from others who regularly launch or store boats in the area. I have looked at ferrybridge marine, the fleet and Weymouth but all work out more expensive than the sailing academy!? So thoughts appreciated along with any options I might not have considered. Thanks joe

Joe,

Cheapest option by far is the Sailing Academy. Try 10m to your right at the marina and you can add a 1 in front of that £80 a month.

I for the last three year have kept the boat on my driveway. This has its own advantages and disadvantages. Obviously it is free to store but you spend more in wear and tear, fuel and alike. Handy for refuelling as you just tow it straight into the garage. Easier for maintenance and repairs as it is on site. On the flip side the Mrs is always moaning that there is no where to park her car lol!

The main advantage of the SA is the convenience of having it on site (especially if you finish work early) with weekend birthing :) Plus the facilities that it entails showers, lockers, boat wash facilities etc

My only gripe with keeping the boat at the SA is that I tend to launch at different slipways when the weather suits. This means I would have to drive to Portland retrieve the boat and head off east or west to required destination.

Fair points and much as I thought mate to be honest, no room at home for a boat so that's out anyway the hassle of launching elsewhere is not something I had taken into account so cheers for that, that said I can't see a huge amount of launching elsewhere taking place? Where else do you launch? Only time I see it are trips Plymouth and Cornwall way which wouldn't be that frequent and maybe not too much of a detour. Mmmm decisions decisions! Guess time will tell and perhaps I will find a willing dive buddy to take some of the costs on, not that I would be considering a boat if I couldn't shoulder it alone but it's always nice lol!

Not got it yet, short version is I have some compensation coming which will fund initial purchase amongst a million other things but still waiting for it to come through am told its due anytime now though. Have decided it will be a RIB though all being well, value for money main use etc all won out over other half s desire for a cabin!

Lol not quite! Especially with some sensible things to do with the money as well!!

Lol looks like a Titus set up that, just need a Portland posed bass to finish it off lol I'll take the boat though and replace the pose mobile with something classic and British.

I did think of Titus when i seen it.
Not sure if i could launch it without getting the car wet!!
