SOme are scared of sharks, and I say boats are the killers,

Was coming up after a freedive at the mouth of a fairly busy bay and i heard an engine, dont think ive panicked so much for a long time, visions of jaws of steel smashing my skull to peices,

Now i have a buoy and hopefully that will warn off these mechanical monsters

Does anyone have any tips (or similar experiences) for diving in the ocean without a support boat other than having a buoy to hand, my confidence is still not instilled in it

Unfortunately the buoy is no guarantee of safe diving at all. Most of the a**holes, instead of being repelled, they are attracted by it, and drive in speed along the buoy to look at it, instead of keeping their distance. I always take care to surface along the rope directly under/at the buoy - in this way the chance to get hit is slightly lower, because although the bastards will come close to the buoy, hopefully only very few will run directly over it.
