I feel a fraud...in registering I had to choose a category..so I chose freediver recreational. I Live in Monpellier in France. A neighbour however is a very competent diver, a specialist with rebreathers. He edits the site/magazine "plongeesout.com"..and I am helping him translate some things, in particular a book about rebreathers with technical details, advice and stories. One of his friends who dives (French) is an English teacher and has done the main job of translating and I am putting the pigeon english into (hopefully) correct style.
Some things are causing me problems howevever...

..what is "progression" when talking about the distance you can advance in a cave system

..what is the "terminal" when you reach a point in the system when you can go no further (like in Wookey Hole recently when they managed to progress past the obstacle with an amazingly deep dive)

...do we use the term "rip current" for a very strong current

..and is the term "skin diving" or "free diving" used when talking about diving unassisted?

I am currently reading (in English) The Darkness Beckons by Martyn Fear and may find these answers inside...yes looks like the site needs to create a new category of "Armchair divers"

Thanks for any anticipated help

(I do swim....honest!)
