Hello :)

I'm part way through my AIDA 2* course with Steve M (Aquatech in Manchester). Had a really good day in the pool a few weeks ago, and did my first open water dives at Dorothea Quarry on Friday night.

Met a nice crowd there, and really enjoyed myself. Found that I had a lot to think about, and when I stopped thinking I really liked being under - although I knew that already.

Struggled a little bit... well a lot really, with equalisation, in the left ear - sometimes it was good - pulled down to around 13m, and sometimes it wasn't - didn't make it past 5. I'm working on that Freznel-Fattah technique, to see if I get any joy with that.

Static breath-holds were horrible in the pool, but I quite enjoy them lying on the floor in my living room. Not sure why, but there you go!

I'm on the look out for bits of kit, so mask recommendations would be good... and once I've finished spending on my mountain bike, a monofin will be on the shopping list.

I don't really get on with neck weights - they're not so bad in the depth stuff, but they drive me nuts in the dynamics. I was wondering why I've not seen anybody wearing the weight vests (like the spearo's use). I've got a few DIY designs rattling around my head - but I cannot believe I'm the first person to be thinking about it.

Can't wait for the next open water session...

Been reading a bit in the spearo forums, that sounds like it's something that I'd like to have a go at.

I reckon I've waffled on enough now... and hopefully it will make that big message at the top of the forums disappear!

Welcome from TExas! For my freediving as I hunt i only use a little weight at the waiste - none at the neck.
