A friend of mine once told me OMER should make studies about my style while swimming with the Omer Ice Fins.

I manage to BREAK a fin every 2-3 months on average:crutch…..naturally, I tried to change the fins, even went as high as custom-made Carbon fins….Still I go back to the Ice fins because they suite my needs more than any other fin.

My legs maybe a bit on the stronger side but nothing unusual….I do take care of my equipment in general…same goes for my fins….yet I keep breaking the Ice on a regular basis.

Any help would be appreciated.

Same happened to my Imersion black team but it happened once then i bought fiberglass fins from spierre and it is working fine with me... Maybe that the life of that fin with your strong leg brother!!! Seems Omer need to check there products on your legs first LOLz (Just a thought)... I hope to get logical comment on your question it is wiered!!!

My Omer Ice fins were my favourite fins too. They really worked well for me. However after I broke 2 blades I gave up on them and now use fibreglass blades. Ther's plenty of discussion about this on various threads but I don't thinks that there is a clear answer.

Dave.

Look carefully at your kick style. Lots of knee bend is common with spearos and puts a lot of flex in the fin blade, maybe too much, overpowering the blade, reducing efficiency and maybe stressing the blade material. This will be especially true in a soft blade like the ice fins. Maybe have someone video your kick style so you can study it. Try a straighter leg kick.

Say, does anyone have any broken Ice fins to donate? Looking to make a pair of underwater hockey fins with them.

Not yet, Bandy, not yet....rofl

My Ice, old type with screws, are still ok after abusing them for 2 years now with diving from shore, rough entries, rocky bottoms...and I bought them used for 50 euros from a "used items" forum. No warranty. But I realize from day to day that I'm being very lucky on the matter, since anyone else's Ice are cracking except mine...:t)

It looks like a dead end solution….I'm not sure what old man was trying to say by "and now use fibreglass blades".
Are they replacement fins or just full fins…please explain and which brand is it.

My BIG problem is that the Ice fins suite me very well………..Can anyone recommend similar style fins as the Ice fins.

Hi Ihab,

After one of my ice blades broke I had it replaced free of charge. I had bought them from Scubaland in France through the internet. It took 2 months to get the replacement. Soon after the other Ice blade broke. Neither blade broke at the fixing screws they both snapped in half in the middle.

I decided not to claim for another blade although I could have as they were under the 3 year warranty. I took the blades out and got some fibreglass blades to fit in the Omer footpockets. Nearly all footpockests and blades can be swapped around even from different manufactureres.

I got some Waterway (Nemo) blades. Lots of UK spearo's use them and they are very good. I was going to buy them brand new as the blades are sold separately but in the end I got some second hand blades from DB member Magpie who lives by me. I still prefered my Ice fins but the Nemo's are good and very, very strong.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Greetings Dave,
Thank you very much.
Can you recommend an online shop in Europe where I could buy a pair....(if they break, I want your address:t)

Pity about the ice fins. It's already been suggested that they are not well suited to larger divers & those with a powerful legs. You'd think being clear, they'd use purer, stronger plastic - perhaps its structure is too regular/brittle. Perhaps they should include a tougher grid of something like nylon or kevlar to add additional support (like rip-stop nylon) - clear translucent should be almost as good as transparent from a camouflage perspective.
