Many thanks to the squad members that turned up for the Bognor dive, despite a SW wind gusting to force 5 the dive went ahead in a rough sea with a strong upcoming tide. We fished three teams with a 500 Gms limit to simulate the rules in the forthcoming European Championship. The visibility got steadily better as the clear water pushed up from Selsey starting at 8ft and increasing to 30ft by the end of the dive. Dan Bailey proved his fitness by electing to fish an area 800 mts to the east of most of the others to find it was void of fish, he then swam back to the rest of the divers against the wind and tide in record time. Dave Pearce decided he was too hot in the 13 c water and ripped the whole front out of his wet suit whilst loading his gun, so then decided to be the boatman, no staying power in these young lads. Lee Deighton took the best Bass of the day a fish of 8 lbs, with Dave Thomasson taking another of 7lbs. Dave a team member from the West Country had asked to fish holes as part of his training, an experience he does not get too often in Cornwall. He was almost in a state of disbelief as the managers in the boat using GPS and shore marks dropped his buoy time and again right on to some of the best-honeycombed rocks he had ever seen at Bognor.

Team Results

Kevin Daly Martin Trosky Lee Deighton 11 Kilos mixed catch.

Dave Tomasson Dave Pearce Dave Bartlett 6.3 Kilos

Keith Eayrs Dan Bailey Glenn Cooke 2.1 Kilos

The dive was followed by a trip to Marks and Spencer’s to buy the team their trousers, this proved to be educational for the managers as the younger members ridiculed the smart creased trouser that the “old farts” had picked out for them deciding to have chinos instead. We had to admit they did look smart and by some miracle we managed to get all the right sizes, a feather in the cap for M&S. The next stop was The Sussex Pad Hotel where the BSA President Wally Pack had laid on a magnificent meal for the squad members of Paella, fresh salad, homemade bread and free drinks all round. Dave T excelled here consuming three of the largest helpings we had ever seen. During the meal a presentation was made to each member of three Polo Shirts, all printed with their names for them to keep as a memento of being in the team. Glenn Cooke our Chairman was also presented with printed shirts as a thank you for all the hard work that he has put in helping to ease the financial burdens of the team by working tirelessly in his efforts to raise funds. Yet again many thanks to our sponsors and the squad members who turned up for the day, showing their commitment to the squad and the future.

Yours Alan Mills & Eric Smith
(The Management Team)

The British team look foward to meeting some of you at the pairs comp at Portland on 30th June.
