Hi all, I was diving with Bryn the other day when my torch broke. It's the Mini Princeton Tec. The bit of plastic inside the torch that toggles the switch snapped. :rcard I don't think super glue will fix it as I think it the wrong type of plastic.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it? or know if Princeton Tec do spares?

Its 2 months out of warrantee!!! typical! :head

see pic of broken bit.

thanks!

Shouldn't be out of warranty, unless you died Clive. Priceton Tec advertise a lifetime warranty. Where did you buy it?

Dave.

Princetontec have a reputation of having very good service, know of people being very happy when bits have broken on their headtorches and they got in touch with them in the US, sending parts out foc.

Try: Contact PT | Princeton Tec

Alternatively, most DIY stores to plastic specific glues which'll work better than superglue.

Thanks guys, I got it from a web site called Penrith, something or other, but can't find it at the moment. I'll try that website Magpie!

Thank you!

PS - Dave, don't think I'm dead - not yet! :) have many more Bass to BBQ yet ;)

found the web site I got it from...

penrithsurvival.co.uk will check with them. thanks for your help guys.

Whitby & Co: UK Distributors have been excellent and are sending me a replacment part tomorrow. Thanks for the help again!

I had the same model which went fttt the first time I used it last year and was all corroded by the time I got home:confused: I hadn't got around to finding the website I bought it off either, but I don't know what they could do unless I could send the whole thing back. It's what we call foutu over here!:(

Easy fixed Princeton tec in the US have a life time warranty but international warranty is 10 years, thatv part is generally held by the importe4r in your country. should be very easy to get a hold of, otherwise just find your nearest dive store that sells princeton tec and they can organise a replacement part, if its not under warranty at the very worst the part and freight are going to be VERY CHEAP.

i guys here is the classic issue with being so conditions to buy from the internet only, something goes wrong and you are left with nobody to talk to. most stores will match internet pricing and back up the product face to face. the funnier thing is that most "online stores" also have a realworld store as well which can help. i'm just noticing this alot in other threads as well that if they cant find it forsale locally on the net they think it doesnt exist, why not try local dive stores before the net you may be well surprised with what is available both in product, advise and in cases like this support if something does go wrong... well worth the extra couple of dollars in my opnion.

Problem for us is, we live in the small island of Guernsey and really only have one specialist dive shop, which I don't think sells Princeton torches ( correct me if I'm wrong Magpie?) so we are dpendent on the interweb, and also for Omer etc. and other decent makes of equipment.:(

Hey. Great to find this thread, as i have the exact same problem. Happened just last week. Will get working on getting a replacment part.

I took my Shockwave switch apart last night with no problems. I used one of those micro ratchet wrenches with a torx screwdriver bit. It fitted inside the case of the torch, even with the screw fully out. You shouldn't have issues putting the new part on if you keep the main switch as it will be threaded from the old screw. Take out the old switch, the sliding lock and clean out all the crap. Ease out the O ring, clean it and the recess, then give it a good wipe with silicone grease and ease it back in. Silicone grease the part of the switch that goes through the case, push that back through, then screw the replacement part back on (don't over tighten). Job done in about 10min.

Thanks for that, trouble is my ratchet set is for working on my car....um, so a tad big then! managed to do it with a pair of long nose pliers direct on the screw head, and a very tight grip!rofl All working fine now!:)

A happy ending:) I was going suggest a 2-part epoxy resin like Araldite / liquid weld. It's the strongest glue I've come across but can end up looking messy.

e.g. J.B. Weld

Selector fork on the switch on my princeton teck shockwave led has broken too. Suspect that's what has happened to other peoples. Plastic fork looks like a piece of crap design. Snapped where the screw passes through it. Looks like I'll be asking for a new part too. I used it tonight by just switching it on using the internal switch and scewing it all back together. Batteries last 10 or 12 hours so did it at the top of the beach and left it switched on permanently during the dive. At least that saved the day (night).

Dave.

Just seen the pic of broken part on previous page. Identical to mine and same problem. Phoned Denny's diving and backed it up with an email. They say it'll be monday before they contact their suppliers but they're on the case. They've been good to me in the past so fingers crossed.

Dave.
