BSA Crystal Clear Spring 2011

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
James!!!!!!! had a quick look through the mag and it looks awesome, You've done a hell of a job mate :)

Thanks James, I know you put a load of effort in and it has paid off with a real bumper edition.

For those who dont know, James is the new editor of the BSA's Crystal Clear magazine, taking over from Eric Smith after about 20 years as editor.
Good luck mate.....

Regards
Kevin Daly

Eric's article on trawling should be compulsory reading for every fisheries minister in the EU.
What a great piece of writing, it damn-near brought tears to my eyes.

You've done a great job with it James. I read it pretty much from cover to cover.

Completely unbelievable I know - I contacted the fisheries team in Sussex, and they have a management document which provides all their policies etc. But all I wanted to know were answers to some very very simple questions, which summarised to: how do you know whether the fish stocks off Sussex are over exploited or not, and what is the acceptable exploitation limit. Unfortunately there is no data available about the size/sustainability of the Bream fishery.

All pretty sad really - but worth fighting for and making a fuss about - it needs more voices and interest from the public to make a difference...

Its heart breaking to say the least :(

Series like "trawlermen" and "trawler wars" dont help . They show the fisherman risking there lives to put fish on our plates putting the public firmly on there side. What they dont show is the devistation caused by the nets and dredges that Eric (and most if not all of us spearos) has seen first hand.

Torbay is dredged and netted to death when the southeries blow hard every trawler in a 50 mile radious arrives in the bay to dredge for scallops destroying everything that cant move out there way :rcard:rcard:rcard.

rant over

James is the magazine still available in printed form? wouldnt mind sending a copy to my Dad in South Africa he loves the sea more than me and this is a great read. Kudos

Hi Scott - yes Crystal Clear is available in hard copy. I need to open up the published version on Lulu.com - I'll do it this week and send out the link. I'll probably price it in the £4 region.

I'll have 2 at that price James nice one :)

Dave Im still paying for it. Took the wife for a spin around the harbour in the boat not to long ago and nearly brought her to tears :( Bad times.

Mate I'm sorry to hear that.
Give her time and take it slowly-slowly.
I'm sure one day she'll be chauffeuring you around the bay in your brand-new twin engined speed boat. :)
