I have been practicing Dynamic and Static Apnea since last summer and I feel as though I have been progressing fairly well. My static times are usually in the 5-6min range with one jaunt over the 7 barrier; Dynamic is ok with DNF of 50m, my form just sucks.

My question is this: I have not BO'ed or encountered a Samba yet; I have violent contractions from about 3:40 onwards but my limiting factor is heat. I feellike i am literally on fire across my back at first then up my neck and chest. I perform Dry statics in just shorts to try and help with the heat and I perfomr signifigantly better when I turn a fan or AC on me. I remeber reading once about certain Yoga technics to control this but i can't find the article again so i was hoping someone could shepard me in the right direction...

thanks...

Hi Gideon not sure about your particular problem with heat i do find my torso gets hotter at times but usually my arms and legs get colder as i get into it but those times are beyond me so someone more experianced may have a soloution. Hydration is the only thing that springs to mind ?

Strange that some people feel too hot when doing static, as I have the opposite problem! I definitely get colder during apnea, and it is most noticeable during repeated long apnea such as O2 tables.

gaaaaaaaaaa i get so hot while doing statics! from my neck to my head the temp. increase a lot. more heavier contractions = more hot.

Hmmm... I get both cold and hot too. My extremities get very cold as I do repeated breathholds and my temperature will drop about 2 degrees fairly quickly and stay that way. I only get hot when I push to the very limit, like the last 30 seconds of a maximum static as I approach sambaa. Then my chest and face feel hot, I can break a sweat, and have measured temperature spikes of 1.5 degrees in these last 30 seconds. When I was first starting to do longer breath holds the hot spells were longer and more intense, especially for CO2 tables. But this has faded with more practice.

IMO when you feel "hot" er "sweaty" is when you're pushing yourself to SAMBA, which i do. lol. breath holding is so.... oh-so-complicated, since not everyone feels the same thing.

I don't think it's good to push yourself to samba! Definitely not on purpose! :)
