Hi guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble finding lead shot in London to start making my neckweight. Can anyone recommend a shop that they got theirs from somewhere in the area, preferably on the tube line?

Cheers,
Ben

You could always use BBs if you can't find any lead shots. Not sure if they rust or not though. May only be a temp. solution.

Hey Benny what about real small sinkers? You could probably buy them in bulk from a fishing shop.

Thanks guys, i'll explore both those options. I miss not having the dive shop down the road like back in Oz!

Cheers,
Ben

If I see any in a sports shop I'll let you know. There is a watersports shop in Embankment and a sports megastore in Surrey Quays.

Well, after a surprisingly easy morning shopping, my neckweight is sorted. I went to Ocean Leisure at Embankment tube station. They sell lead shot both in sachels and loose, both for the same price. I recommend buying the sachels (either 1, 2 or 3kg) as they're a hell of a lot easier to carry. The price was about ₤4 per kg for either loose or sachel.

Then I walked straight across the road where there was a bike shop and after explaining what I was doing for the second time that day, I bought 3 inner tubes for ₤10. Then on the way home I went into a cheapy store and couldn't find any clips, but funnily enough I found the exact clip I wanted on a dog collar for ₤2. So ladies and gents, I give you Rufus the neckweight :D

So all up I spent about ₤50 (₤15 on the neckweight I made, with ingredients for another 2 or 3). If i'd searched around a bit more I probably could have knocked a few pounds off, but the convenience was worth it. Plus the money saved would have only been spent on beer anyway.

It's 3kg which is probably too much, but I can always do more pack stretching or wear my 3mm O'neill wetsuit. I bought it for statics but it has a good neck seal so it might be ok for dynamics too.

Cheers,
Ben
