I splashed out and baught a C4 130 today, it vost me what you guys on the other side of the Atlantic pay for adecent gun so...

Anyways, the shop wasn't all that well stocked on pre made rubber, and since it takes the screw in ends, I am not sure if I can make those up myself as opposed to the ball type.

This guns takes two rubbers, it is a very impressive pieve of work, and very, very simple in overall desogn.

I am shootin 1.7 7mm spears for th emost part, I also have a 1.6 and a 1.5 which I will try for accuracy over time.

I was going to rig it with 2 OMER 18mm 32cm bands, which dyneema wishbones but the ones in the shop(only one pair) did fit properly for some reason. Just to check it was all OK we tried some other rubbers that all fit, so it must have been a defectinve set of Omers.

Can anyone advise on setup for this gun, which comes "naked" from the shop. I want to use it for bluewater and some open clear water reef fishing most likely on trips away since locally there isn't much call for such a gun. Apart from trying it on those deeper jaunts where the biggger fish stay "just out of range" of a normal 110.

If forcing the screw in ends is a possibility I would be more than hapy to make sme bands up from scratch, even more so if someone can reccomend a particular brand of aftermarket brand of rubber.

Thanks.

Hi - I think that you will have trouble forcing rubber into screw fits.... Maybe you can change the muzzle to accept circular rubber bands ? I am not familiar with this particular gun physiology...

Hiya

Congrats on the new gun!!!!

The easiest way is simply to buy yourself a set of euro adaptors. With these, you can tie your own bands and experiment with different types of rubber until you've found the best combination.

This isn't quite on topic, but Miles - or Jomas for that matter - is it possible to use a double wrap on these guns? I've had a pretty good look at the pictures on the C4 site and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to loop the line around at the front, just the extra hole drilled through the muzzle which I'd assume is where the end of the line attaches. I'm quite keen on getting a 1.3 but there's no point if I can't use a double wrap of line...

Hiya

My 115 has the single rubber muzzle, and NO, i can't use double wrap on it!!!

Not a big problem though, as you can simply screw in a "anchor" on the tip of the gun, for the line to go around........ :hmm :hmm

Mmm, was afraid I might have to rig up something like that. Don't much like the idea of drilling holes in such a nice looking gun, maybe something removable that fits over the end of the barrel would work.
That's an amazing oversight in the design of what is supposedly a very high-end gun. A 130 with 2x20mm rubbers and a single wrap would just about rip your arm off every time you missed something as the spear slammed into the end of the line.
And then there's the fact that the double rubber muzzles are open and there doesn't seem to be anything holding the spear in place...

Or is the "anchor" an accessory that C4 supply? That would make more sense.

2x20mm!!! :duh :duh :duh

On a light gun like that, i'll bet its gonna have PLENTY recoil!!!!

Worse case senario, you could always just glue a "anchor" of some sort onto the tip. But as you said, on a high end gun like that, you shouldn't need to do mod's.....

Yeah baby! I'm quite fond of impractically big/powerful guns.

Hiya

Another power hungry spearo!!!!:D:D:D:D

You're welcome to try out my 67" mid handle with 10mm spear and 5x16mm's!!! Kicks like a mule!!!! But what range!!!! My FAVOURITE!!!!

you can use double wrap on C4 without anymode. I read somewhere to how to do it since i also concerned about same issue. But can't rememmber exactly where was it and how. As far as i remmember, on second loop you use hole muzzle as anchor or something like that. I don't have the gun so can not say tell the exact solution. Some may know... :hmm

Murat: that makes sense, though it would be a bit fiddly and the spear might end up sitting on the line if there is not enough clearance? It's a nice simple solution though. I'm probably just going to get one and tinker with it.

Huan: Apparently so, we're planning to use 2x21mm picasso rubbers and heavy spears on ours. Nick mentioned this to C4 and they said the mechanism should be fine under that sort of load. It certainly looks very sturdy, more like an american style mechanism than the sort you find on most euro guns.

Interesting , I know that the new RA Vectra handle has a stronger mech. But as I understood it the big problem with double 20mm is that the euro spear notch (halfmoon) isn't as positive as the American square spear notch.
I haven't actually looked at the C4 in the flesh so I am only speaking from experience with "lesser" euroguns.
let us know how you get on with the "overbored" C4
I take it this is for Kingies?

It should make a nice kingy gun, but I want it mainly for diving overseas, and for shooting tuna etc back home. It's also nice to have a long-range gun handy if the water is clear and you come across wary fish like warehou that won't come within range of a regular euro gun. I'll probably look into putting a slip tip on it for the big stuff as long as it doesn't slow the shaft down too much.
Actually I'm planning to head to SA in December, so maybe Miles can point me in the direction of some of those mega-YFT they've been shooting!

i think with good double 16mm bands and 7mm shaft you will have nice accurate long range setup, and for those tunas double omer 18mm and 8mm shaft may do the job.

When did you buy the gun? I heard C4 started to ballance the guns in the factory for specific setup. They adds mass or carbon to the gun or change the shape if its necessary. This should solve musch of the problem...
