C4 differences

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Fpernett, I have been reseaching the same question and the only thing I have come up with is that the flap is suppose to be a new improvement over the standard c4. I have not used either of the fins and always beleived that every individual being slightly different cannot tell what is best for him without trying them first, which poses another dilemma. Good luck and lets try to keep each other posted to any new findings.

Amphibious, yes I just spoke to Mark and he is pretty knowledgable with all the fins and says that the flaps are definitely an improvement over the falcons. I think I will have to get a pair and I will let you all know what I think.

Talked with C4 and they said flap is better than falcon. This not surprised though they are manufacturer of the product.

In real life views users found very small or no difference. Of course without dedicated scientific observation, finding the difference can be difficult since both are the fins supposed to be perform very good. As far as i observed some preffer falcons and some flap. VTRs are fiberglass not a carbon.

Does anybody knows if carbon fins lost their snap with time? I noticed that my gara300s had lost some of their snap power. Probably thereason is very hot wheather.

Murat, you are probably right on with all that you have stated, and as far as them losing any of the snap I don't know. The sun can do some pretty amazing things to any man made materials in my opinion.. As long as the outer skin is never sratched or dinged who knows but that is inevitable. I'm with you though on the deterioration of the plastic fins for my esclapez always seem to lose some of the power in time. I would say after one season you can start to feel the difference unless it just me being one year more tired.

Thanks all for the answers, but I think I must make the question more specific. One fin can be better over the other if I want to do deep spearfishing, shallow or just recreational freediving.
I'll use it only for competitive Constant Ballast (yes, I should use a mono, but I'll keep it this way). The Flap 80 perform better than Falcon 80?.
TIA

hi frank,
sorry i didn't see that the english version is even more lacking than the italian one. there's still no technical description of the VTR (the only thing i know is that they are fiberglass and same shape of falcon), but there's a full description of the flap. they claim the flap are 15% more efficient than the falcon because of their new shape. one cause of inefficiency of blades is generally the final part (15/20 cm), which remains flat (not bending) during the kicking. taking away the sides in hte final part, the "flap" left will be free to bend more easily, giving an extra push, and therefore more efficiency to the kick.
one interesting thing i found is that falcons and flaps are not 100% carbonfiber, but a mix with other two kind of resins (in italian: vetroR, and resina epossidica, whaterver that means).

that was the easy version; the description is quite technical and my english is not good enough for that. maybe i'll ask some help around!

If you dont use Resina Epossidica (epoxy resin or gelcoat) how would you stick the carbon sheets together?

All carbon fins need a resin to bind the fibers.

Some are hand laid and some a pre-impregnated with the resin.

The C4 VTR is a more rugged model with less performance. Made of fibreglass
