Hi Guys,

I have been looking at some C4 VGR fuego or mustang fins.

Does anybody have these fins? Are there any reviews around?

Would you recommend these fins?

Any input is welcome.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

Welcome to DB! I have the Fuegos 30. Absolutely love my fins... the blades are extremely responsive and sturdy and the footpockets are very comfortable for me.

I first bought the original Mustangs with flaps, in hardness 40. It provided awesome power but it will kill the weakest part of your legs after a few hours of diving... in my case it was my ankles. I use them as spare blades now.

The one advice I would give you is to choose carefully your blade softness based on your weight, height, and fitness level. Also, will you be using your fins mainly for spearfishing or for freediving?

If you are mainly hunting I recommend sticking with the Fuegos (lack of flaps to scratch on bottom/rocks). If you are mainly freediving, the new Mustang 3 blades are a bit longer and look excellent for deeper dives. Then there is always the 81's but I am not so found of those yellow rails
.

There is a review on the Fuegos on the italian site bluworld.com, but it is in Italian: http://translate.google.com.au/translate?hl=en&sl=it&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bluworld.com%2Fc4zone%2Ffuegopaladinonew.html

Hi Claudio,

Thanks for the warm welcome and really informative reply!

I will be mostly spearfishing with them. I had the fuegos in mind, exactly for that reason.

I've had Nemo no.2 fins for the last 3years and their stiffness suited me quite well, so I would probably go for the middle stiffness 30.

Do you think it would be good to go a size higher in order to fit the fins with socks i.e. I'm a shoe size 45-46, should I go 47-48 with the fins in order to get them on with socks? I ask because my Nemos are size 46-48 but when I wear socks with them my feet cramp up within 15minutes.

Yeah I definitely don't like the yellow on the 81's either!

Cheers Luke

Hi Luke,

I'm glad I can help. Sounds like 47-48 will work best for you. But the best thing you can do, if you have a chance, is to try the Mustang footpockets with neoprene socks on at a store.

That's what I did and I ended up opting to purchase the 45-46 footpocket, which fits perfectly on my feet with 3 mm socks and without the need to use the laces. I could have gone with the 47-48 footpockets using the laces, but in my case the 45-46 without laces felt simpler and more comfortable to me as I have wide (read tall) feet.

Obviously, no matter how good the blade and footpocket design of the Mustangs are, you will not enjoy them at all unless you are happy with the way the footpocket feels on your feet.

Cheers,
Claudio

there are several postings on this i just bought a pair of mustang vgr 30's look up best carbon fins to buy as a thread lots of info there

Hello deeperblue,i am in the same condition as my previous carbon fins broke and i have to buy a new pair of fins.I am thinking of mustang 25 or the falcon 25 with omer footpockets.I have the tried the falcons and i liked them very much, but i've never tried the mustang and so i am a bit sceptic. What do you think of those fins.Iam a spearfisher and that's why i think i should go to the convetional choice of falcons.I am a afraid that the mustang would be more fragile not only in the flap but in the joint with footpocket as well, and that the mustang footpocket will be heavier than the omer. What your opinion of those fins.

Hi Dali,

I too was going for the falcons at first, then I tried the Mustangs at the store, liked the fit, and was sold on it.

If anything the Mustangs blades are more robust at the joint with the footpockets since C4 designed the Mustang footpocket to maximize the benefits of carbon and minimize stresses on that joint.

The width on that part of the blade is much wider than on conventional blades, it's angle is less abrupt and distributed more evenly, and the screw holes are positioned towards the top of the bend... where there is less stress on the blade.

I don't know how you broke your last pair of carbon blades, but one thing you have to watch out for with all carbon blades is to make sure they are not hit sideways too hard. You will see all the these video tests of people hitting on to of the carbon blades, bending them, and jumping on them, but you will not see anyone hitting on them sideways.

Below is the thread the nz676 refers to above. You will find more info there:
