Over the last few years I have noticed something strange about caffeine. That is, I get lower than normal heart rates the next day! Of course as popular knowledge, caffeine will severally hurt my breath hold ability through higher hr’s the day I ingest it, but the next day seems better than normal.

Anyone else ever experience this?

Very interesting. I think Kirk said something about a bounce affect of drugs. Nasal sprays can reverse after a few days.
I used to use caffeine as a drug (legal) when I raced bikes but now it causes sleep problems. Once a week I have a treat and I've often noticed that my pulse is lower than expected the next day. Never put it together though.

Bill,
A potential bounce effect was right in-line with what I was thinking. I’m pretty much like you in the frequency of taking caffeine. A diet coke treat once or less per week is about all, which may have something to do with the bounce effect.

Another related matter is caffeine is definitely on the WADA banned list. Whether it would show in the urine in an illegal amount the following day is a question? It’s funny because caffeine lies is the category of accelerants that was thought to be of no use to freedive performance.
