Hello guys, this question is aimed at all of you super scientist freedivers AHEM *eric* AHEM!!.

I have a polar wristwatch and I know that my particular model doesn't support using it in the water and as I was running and watching my kcal consumption on the watch started wondering how many calories I could burn by swimming and finswimming.

I know Eric uses pulse oxymeters and Spyrometers and whatnot so maybe one of you has determined the kcal consumption per kilometer or per hour? I know it changes with intensity and with the subject but some rough numbers would suffice to ease my thirst for knowledge.

Thanks in advance

-Mariano

My studies in fitness lead me to believe that a calorie counter on a watch, or in fact any calorie counter on anything is a sales gimic. However if it encourages you to exercise, it really works.

lol ok lets assume that kcal counters in watches are nothing more than sales gimmick... kcal consumption on the human body due to excersice is not and my question arises from the fact that many sport modalities have some sort of kcal aproximate...

So my question isn't wether the thing actually measures my kcals being consumed but more like "Does anyone know how many kcals we tend to consume in an hour or a kilometer of swimming and finswimming?"

:D:) :) :) :)

Thanks Landshark I've added that to my favourites to sift through later.

Polorutz my friend, when exercising you may be burning calories, blood sugars or fat depending on what you are doing and when or for how long.

The complete answer is too complex, so just enjoy your swimming etc, have fun and keep active.
