Afternoon guys - I was wondering if anyone who uses Elios suits could let me know how you've found them?

I don't spear that often (being stuck in Shropshire) so I was thinking about going for a cheap and cheerful Elios Apneasub Economy Suit MTM.

Do you think that the cell lining is a must? Or will the nylon be ok? I'm a bit of a rough bastard and am a little worried about ripping an open cell! If it's significantly better, I could learn to be gentle though ;)

All advice very much appreciated!

(I know the lead times on these can be quite long but I'm guessing around 8 weeks)

Thanks dave - appreciate the input! Can you guess who I was thinking of buying my suit from? ;)

I'd love to get your (or anyone else's) thoughts on the Economy Suit - is it any good?

I have a MTM Elios and its great, open cell very warm been in all winter and not cold. I fish some tide ripped reefs and have replaced the knees as they became a bit holey but all my own doing.

hope that helps.

Elios rocks.
Get open cell in, nylon out. I've got three - two smoothskin neoprene out, one nylon out - all open cell in. Fab suits.

X2

Open cell, smooth out will be the warmest option. We use them under ice with great pleasure which wouldn't work so nice without open cell. Nylon out will be stronger but slightly more stiff and colder especially in high wind.

You have to be prepared to pay minimum 159Euro + shipping + 25E if You want color other than black. Good luck

Smoothskin is very delicate material so be careful! Nylon can take abit more abuse, at the expense of slightly less flexibility.

Just to summarize - the two advantages of smoothskin out - warmer - particularly in wind - more streamlined - these suits really move through the water nicely - particularly if you use a monofin or dive no fins.

Nylon out is MUCH sturdier however - resistant to abrasion and ripping. If this is your first freediving suit. it is probably the better investment - unless you dive in very cold air. Also if you dive near rocks, coral - rough entries or exits. My suit is 'superstretch' - and it is nearly as flexible as my smoothskin suits. It was also my first suit and is now more than 3 years old - with heavy use.

Elios economy, all the way. i got one coming on 2 years ago this summer.

I previously had a 7mm scoobie suit, which i thought was warm!
With the elios 5mm, cell inside i have to say i've never been cold at any point in th year. Sometimes had to let some nice cool water into the suit during the summer as i would get a bit warm after a bit of finning. To this end i'm thinking of picking up an elios 3mm jacket for the summer. might go cammo mesh outer this time.

oh wait! i forgot i've no money!rofl
