Can you eat any fish?

Im a beginner here and will be spearing the pacific coast Mexico to Panama. Might be a silly question but can you spear and eat any fish?
Does anyone know of a good guide book to spearfishing that helps beginners out?

You can eat all fresh water fish, you cant eat all salt water fish.
I dont know what you can eat and what not in this case.

Scuba diving shops usually stock reef guide and fish guide books. While they are not aimed at spearfishers (you wont find any recipes or shooting techiniques!) they will tell you which ones are toxic and the normal habitat and depth range you can find the fish.
