I need to replace my 42" Biller speargun with something better and longer. i currently line shaft and free shaft it. I'm am fairly experienced. i wasnt sure if i should get a gun that can freeshaft too since i dive and freedive mostly on reefs shallow and deep, some wrecks too. maybe its not necessary for what im doing? i like takin longer shots too at those muttuns that swim just too fast, so it needs to be long. I would like to stick to a wooden gun; i just like them better. Probably 2 bands (3 is too much and 1 is too thick for me). i was thinking either a Riffe Euro 100cm, AB Biller or Sea Hornet or Riffe Comeptitor 48". Any other ideas? The Riffe Competitor is strictly lineshaft unless i get a magnet installed like the Euro right? then they are both capable of freeshafting? I hear Riffe's shoot low though? i dont want JBL. what are your thoughts?

Bill McIntyre is the guy with the US tree trunks - might want to check out some of his posts. How about Wongs?

Or, if wood is not essential, how about a SouthAfrican-style railgun (Rob Allen / Rabitech / Hammerhead / Orca / etc.). They're pretty similar, all heavy duty & designed for big fish, and we've seen pics of sizes from 50cm to 150cm! Or maybe one of the Omer Cayman models? Or a Seatec Gabianno? Beuchat Mundial?

I'm partial to Wong hybrids. Somewhere between 55 and 60 inches with three bands should meet your needs.
