I am keen to hook up for a dive Sat - pls keep me updated 2 would love to meet you gents, it’s always nice to dive with others. Will check the sea conditions hangklip side.

At present the weather reports for wind and swell look good for false bay over the weekend - not sure of the best winds yet for all the areas. This side the South Easter is good for kogel baai area (keeps it flat and usually colder/cleaner) there are some nice spots for crayfish here.

Smutswinkel should have some gr8 potential for yellow tail ? And a north westerly wind should make it good?

Exactly, Smuts has yellowtail in the bay and gallies in the kelp. A dive buddy of mine works in Simonstown so we can get a vis report from him on friday morning and with you being on that side we should be covered on what side is the best for a good days diving

So it looks like prefailing SEterleys till this weekend, maybe koggelbay side will be the best bet, has the red tide subsided yet? What do you guys think, or should we wait and see what the reports say by tomorrow and friday morning? Just wana get wet at this stage of the game

I hear some rumers that it is the dreaded Argus cycling tour this weekend, go figure on the first weekend in weeks that looks promising for any kind of diving.

yip thats Sunday, so the last place we need to be is in the southern suburbs/cape point region on Sunday. But i have no problems with taking out a couple of cycleists on my way to a dive spot.

Red tide is getting less, Strand looked better this morn and kogel bay side looks like it may be driveable by weekend. Yesterday Betty’s was mud with red tide.

The continuing SE (“fingers crossed”) will hopefully save the day. Forgot about the Argus that’s a spanner. Will check the morrow again but looks like I will only get a “pass” for a Sunday dive.

Ive only got a 'pass' as we so elegantly call it for saturday as weve allready got other plans for sunday this getting together for a dive thing is more logistically problematic than I thought. By the way covert why werent you at the club last night, Louis was there with his brand spanking new omer range, hes got most of the masks, snorkels and fins including the very popular on DB ice fins and also the omer knive range including the mini laser :friday and some cool dive lights. I just could not resist the urge so I got a alien mask and pro black snorkel :t
The masks range from R250 to R600 and snorkels are R150 for black and R250 for camo. The mini laser is R250 and the fins range from R950 to R1750 for the ice fins...

Hey Gents, yesterday the visibility was not looking that gr8 at kogel baai. The SE has blown most of the muck toward cape point with a very visible clear water line just past Gordon’s Bay old harbour a km out to sea -> this line blurred and decreased at Cool Bay increasing again past the tidal pool. This morning strand beach looked peachy. Will try check this afternoon and post this evening. Have to jump in to be sure though. Its still an easterly wind so the conditions should only get better.

Yea those that dont try dont win hey, so... interested parties in a dive tomorrow let me know as I will definately be going in for a look around the bottom once everybody who will join in the fun is in we can sort out the wheres and whens and if its crap we can go for a breakfast beer somewhere :friday

So how was it ? Did you gents venture out ?

Twas not looking that gr8 2day, actually worse than Friday so I didn’t even try.

In a report from 1962 it was estimated that over 100 tons of sea life was wiped out in False Bay as result of a killer red tide. They say it can last up to 6 months and needs the wind to save the day. Hopefully our prevailing SE will do the trick soon.

At present quite allot of sea life has been washed up and a report from a boat at Gordon’s harbour returning from the Tuna grounds yesterday said that the “muck” was visible in the water 20 miles from shore.

Not all bad news I found the perfect spot Saturday which provided some excellent fish and best year round visibility .

I am willing to share the location for say oh 1 100 Millions Dollars!

yeah we went out to get a great view of "tomato soup bay" took a nice drive and found one diveable spot. Which looked excellent ... happy for us ... dont be ... Marine and Coastal management made it a protected area, where you may fish but not spear. Man i would like to get my hands on those @#$@ @$#$# @$@$#@$

I dont understand their logic. As spearo's we can see what we want to shoot which puts us in a much better situation than any fisherman. So why do they allow fishing (where they will take more fish since they have to cover the cost of the boat) and not spearing.

This damn country sometimes just doesnt make sense. All the good diving spots are no take zones. The rest of the diveable spots they decide that you can fish but not spear.

Im sort of in a mix between sad an very @#$@#$ed off.

On the upside we did try out most of the watering holes from Rooiels to Kleinmond and have the rest marked on gps for future excursionsrofl . We were however kinda desperate to get wet and decided to jump into the palmiet river, close to no viz at top and no viz when lying on the bottom in the slight thermocline, I mean no viz as in you cant even see past the end of you gun handle and very freaky 3m viz about 40cm off the bottom where everything looks like its jumping up at you. After about a 500m swim I saw all of 2 harders and 3 loose kelp strands. There are however supposed to be steenbras and leeries in there but I dont really think its legal to shoot fish in rivers and estuaries but we were desperate O and when we got out we had 3 hippie types on the yacht club slip looking kinda in a hurry for us to get out of there so they can spark up their herb rofl Seriously these guys came equiped with blankets and the biggest picnic basket you ever saw in you life rofl
