I have a 90cm Omer Excalibur 2000 that I want to replace barrel with a carbon fiber barrel. anyone know where I can get one and have one I can buy from them that's in good condition?

The best thing is to ask forum member Mark Laboccetta (Omer importer in Usa, website www.omerdiving.com). If it's available in the Usa, it must certainly pass through Mark's warehouse.

Hi Blade Runner,

I saw your email today but what you want to do is not so simple. You can't simply switch a barrel, not to mention buying parts alone sometimes cost more than the complete gun.

The reason is the ID of the carbon guns is different than aluminum guns. As a result so are the male ends of the muzzle and handle, basically diameters of all three of these are different from aluminum guns. If you changed to a carbon barrel it wouldn't fit without modifying and shaving down the diameter of the handle and muzzle in your aluminum gun since the wall thickness of the aluminum is thinner 1,2mm compared to 1.5mm of the carbon 90cm. If then you reduce those two parts unevenly you'll risk to have a cockeyed gun.

If you are still determined to do it let me know and I'll see if I can source you a 90cm barrel, if we have one laying around. However, my suggestion is to save your money and put it toward a bigger gun where a carbon barrel is more of a worthwhile purchase. The increase in performance between an aluminum gun and a carbon gun in that length is so minimal that unless you just would like to have the "bling effect" of a carbon gun you won't hardly notice it in the water.

The overall difference in weight of the guns is in the ounces, a few, and a carbon barrel is truly only more advantageous in longer lenghths, 100-120cm, where longer Alum. guns tend to be more wrist heavy and you need a greater stiffness to weight ratio than aluminum barrels in those lengths.

Regards, Mark

OK thank you Mark I didn't relize it would be that different between the barrels. I was just looking to make it alittle light after adding a reel to the gun. Thank you anyway for time greatly appreciated!!!
