wahoo in the space of one month i aimed to up my max breath from 20 seconds to two minutes, well two days into trianing and i hit a new record of 1 minute 38 seconds:friday

:D Good deal! Congrats, and keep working at those miserable things. You'll keep improving.

thanxroflhope i can do that time again i will change my tables for that max breath hold now wheather my body likes it or not:crutch

Nice going on your new hold too. I started around a minute and have got up to 3:45 in a few weeks not rushing, which is more than I thought I could do. I believe I can do 5 minutes in the future. Doing dynamic is fun too in the public pool - it would be tempting to carry weight and swim underneath people!

well done:friday, my record is 2 minute 20 now as for swimmign with weight i am a little cautious i used too much weight when scuba diving and that caused problems how do i work out my weight so that i can still swim on the surface?
as a rough guide i weigh 11 and a half to twelve stone it varies from week too week cus i train alot either that or my scales are screwed.
how much does your max breah hold relate to underwater in the sea? i will be divign in the sea on monday probably to test myself.

For proper weighting for freediving, you should be positively buoyant, with EMPTY lungs, at the surface, and neutral at 33'. This way, after 33', you will be negatively buoyant, and can just "free fall" during your descent. As for the variation in max breath hold, remember; during a static, you're still and conserving energy and oxygen...during an actual dive, you're kicking, etc, and using much more energy. I've found that dynamic is a better guide for breath hold time during a dive, since you're active the entire time during a dynamic. For example, look at Martin Stepanek; his static time has been up to 8:06, but his dive to 106m took around 3:55, half of his static time.

positivly boyant with empty lungs cheers will try that but to be truthful im not even sure if im positivly boyant normally with empty lungs suppose i must be tho i will try 4kg to start do you think that would be ok?
oh yea that reminds me my weight belt is on the reef at stack rocks, think i probably killed a few bits of coral there unfortunatly. must buy a new one

I've found that my max breath hold relates little to dynamic due to another of reasons I think; I'm not very fit, during dynamic you're burning oxygen as opposed to lying still, I don't breathe up as well as lying on my bed! I think that as my breast stroke improves and I continue to practice underwater intervals my time and distances will improve.

I like the calm of swimming with my head underwater.
